My new imac

I was so excited to get my new computer. My old Mac is 10 years old. I got it mainly to work with photos and video. So I’m transferring everything from old to new iMac. New one says not enough storage space. What?!?!?! It said pick what you don’t want to transfer. I need the photos app. I’m lost. Help please

This means your new iMac does not have a large enough internal drive. Also, make sure you restore your data to the new Mac using your Time Machine drive, never over Wi-Fi.


You have a few options that I would recommend:


  1. Return this iMac and purchase one with plenty of storage. Go to the Apple menu () > About This Mac > Storage to see what you're using.
  2. Move large libraries and files to an external storage device from the old one, or set the new iMac up as "new" (don't transfer anything), inherit your Time Machine backup to the new Mac, then Restore items backed up with Time Machine on Mac - Apple Support to the new location(s) or external drive(s).
