Annoying iPhotos

When I plug my iPhone into my MacBook, iPhotos on the latter comes up. It then turns itself on and off and on and off. IPhotos refuses to all me to use any other application on the MacBook. How do I get iPhotos to stop?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.6

Assuming you mean Photos:

Connect the iPhone to your laptop.

Wait for Photos to launch.

In the Photos Import window, uncheck this setting:

Disconnect the iPhone by clicking the eject icon in the Photos sidebar.

Photos should now ignore the iPhone when you reconnect it.

(If you really do mean iPhoto, I think there was something very similar but it's so long since I used it I can't remember the details.)
