Spatial audio not available on MacBook Air m1?

Spatial audio not available on MacBook Air m1? Running the latest OS Monterey. My settings show selected in both Music app and System Prefs. My AirPods Pro work fine on my iPhone with both Atoms and spatial audio.

I had this problem, then it suddenly started working for a few days only to go off again. It took me a while to figure it out. It was Shazam. If it's on then Spatial audio will not work. Simply quit Shazam and it works.

Same here, and given that the advertising material specifically says 'Dolby Atmos for Apple Music' for these Airpods 3 that I just received, and spatial audio then doesn't actually work for apple music, this is very poor on apple part, what does what on what with regards to this is incredibly confusing.. i was absolutely convinced from reading around beforehand that the airpods3 wouldn't work for atmos spatial using apple tv, yet this works absolutely brilliantly (I honestly kept forgetting i even had headphones on!), and i expected it to almost only work with apple music, and this is one of the only things that DOESN'T work..... get your messaging straight guys

New M1 Max MBP and Airpods 3 owner with the same issue here. At first I thought it might have something to do with other apps trying to use the mic and speakers as I had some web pages open with the camera on testing facial recognition and machine learning performance, but i closed those out and it still sounds awful. Are you all experiencing a regression in stereo audio fidelity as well? My music sounds like I'm listening to ultra compressed mobile phone voicemails rather than high fidelity lossless atmos audio.

Same exact problem with Mac M1 air and Mac M1 pro. When I go to safari it shows me this mode. In Italian it means "Simulate Spatial Audio". In reality the spatial audio is not perceived at all... This appears only in safari. Apple Music does not work. Nothing goes. How nice to pay 1500 for devices and have these shortcomings.... :D

Does anyone have any other solutions? I've read some that resetting the PRAM solved it. On mac m1 it automatically resets on reboot. In manual there is no way to do that. Do someone have Other solutions?

I am on latest OS. I have no interest in downloading music. I have AirPods Max and they work fine on iPad Pro with Apple Music and ATMOS. I don’t like the sound of spatial audio there either. Too low and echoey. All I was saying was that even though I can’t choose spatial audio on the MacBook Pro, as it is greyed out, it sounds exactly the same as spatial audio through my iPad Pro. Like crap. That makes me think it is activated on the MacBook even though it is greyed out.

I am having this exact same issue 12/27. Still not fixed apparently. Tried all the fixes mentioned here and elsewhere online. Works great on iPhone. Similar to other comments here as well, the Apple TV app also works properly. My hunch is that there is a problem with Apple Music somewhere. But yes, I have the greyed out "not available" icon and I am playing the same content that works as spatial audio on my iPhone. I am following this for a fix soon. I like to use the Apple Music app on my mbp. Which I am using a 2021 16" M1 Pro Max with Apple Air pod pros. It should be working.

I wonder whether Dolby Atmos is different to Spatial Audio.. the same way Dolby Digital is to HDR... i.e. you can't change any settings with Dolby Digital as it's auto configured for your TV picture. Maybe it's the same with Dolby Atmos.. it's a fixed setup according to the protocol and thus Spatial Audio isn't an option you can enable/disable manually. It's whatever Atmos says it is.

Interesting and thanks for the update (and yes, I did miss you having AirPods 3 not the AAP - sorry).

What's interesting is that when I listen on my M1 iMac (which is listed on a device to support Spatial Audio) I can definitely hear the difference when having Dolby Atmos in the Music preferences on Automatic and Off when listening to the built in speakers. And to my ears (which are granted almost 70 years old and listened to a LOT of high volume music over the years LOL) even with the AirPods Pro I hear a difference. Even though I do see the same grayed out indication that "Spatial Audio" is not available.
