Microphone issue with Siri

I'm having an issue with my phone responding to verbal "Hey Siri." Under general>settings>Siri, I toggled "listen for "hey Siri"" off and on, but then the phone does not respond when it asks me to set it up by saying "hey Siri" (in other words, I say it, but it is like the microphone is not picking it up). However, the phone does hear me when I hold the side button down for Siri. It also hears me for text message dictation etc. I have an iPhone XR and just dowloaded iOS 15.0.2 (issue was present before updating iOS).

We understand that your iPhone is not responding to "Hey Siri". It is responding to Siri when you press the side button to activate Siri. We would recommend taking a look at the following support article for troubleshooting to start with.

mine too. i'm just having microphone trouble while trying to set up 'hey siri'. i also have an iPhone XR and the mic seems to be working with everything else except ' hey siri '. what's up Doc? Grrrrr...

Unfortunately neither of those worked. The microphone is working fine with everything else, and I’ve tried toggling “listen for siri” on and off (and restarting the phone after doing so) in Siri & Search. For some reason the phone is not responding to “hey siri.”
