apple TV black pulsing in shadows during playback on all services.
Spec:
- Apple TV 4K 1st Gen
- match range and refresh rate set to on ( problem still exhibits if set to off)
- TV = Sony Bravia KD65X7053 2020 LED HDR
- connected via HDMI 2.0 cable via hue sync box connected to TV via HDMI 2.0 cable
- TV modes all switched to off in terms of contrast adaptation / chroma / gamut adaptation / motion adaptation
problem
- whenever I view content on any streaming service via Apple TV in SDR or HDR the dark shadow areas of a frame pulse. This is constistant across Netflix/Disney+/youtube/NowTV etc. the Apple TV is connected via a Philips Hue Sync Box via HDMI 2.0 cables throughout the chain. Furthermore, I have a PS5 connected via the same setup and cable format that exhibits none of the same issues in black pulsing during viewing on all platforms above or during gaming. I have not seen this issue occur during other issues with the Apple TV so it’s almost like a broadcast legaliser clipping the signal (I’m an online editor and colourist in TV so am used to reading waveforms and analysing luminance and chroma issues).
- I have factory reset the unit several times but cannot remove the problem.
has anyone else experienced this issue and resolved it? It’s a real shame as I used to rely upon my Apple TV for the best signal quality whilst streaming but now I’m having to rely on the PS5 which doesn’t have as nice a UI for aggregating all providers.
