Does anyone know why my videos are much much smaller than the original when I send them to someone in a text message? I always send iphone to iphone.

Try Compressing it (on a Mac):
You might be able to compress it on a computer, and then see if you can transfer it back over to your phone. From there, send it as a ZIP file.
If the video size is large and you are using cellular data, they will get compressed before they are sent. That has to do with the cellular carrier.
So I should turn off my data when doing videos or pictures?
If you turn off data, you will not be able to send the videos, unless you are connected to wi-fi.
This didn't help. It would not allow me to send videos with data turned off.
I turned on wifi and it keeps saying video failed to send. The only way it will send is with data on.

You could always use a cloud storage service such as Dropbox or Microsoft's OneDrive.
Upload them to the cloud, then share the file.
