delete music from iPhone and stop it from loading on phone

I didn't realize iTunes is copying music to my iphone

I found instructions that said to delete it from the settings>music but, it only showed a few albums there

"Music" on my iPhone has most of my itunes library, not needed... I prefer to use my lighter weight and more versatile iPod for music... *

how do I remove the music from my iPhone and and stop iTunes from copying it to the phone?

My setting for my iPod is manual download so not set to "sync"

Win 7, current iTunes, iPhone 8

currently going through iTunes, Overdrive, LA library **** trying to set up new computer...

downloaded everything, why is it not working? sigh....

*note to Apple, I've read iTunes and iPods are going to be discontinued, I do my housework, gardening and projects with my iPod in a dust protecting pouch listening to audio books... I would never use the heavier and more expensive iPhone for the same. And many I know, say the same... light weight, more flexible... 3.5 adaptable to speakers, the iPod is one of the great entertainment tools of our time

no way would I ever walk out to do gardening listening to a cozy mystery with a $1,000 phone

iPhone 8, iOS 15

Good day to you wednesdaytgw,

It sounds like you’re encountering an automatic sync happening when you connect your iPhone to your computer.

From the Summary pane look under Options and make sure that ‘Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected’ is unchecked. Then click Sync or Apply at the bottom right.

To make changes to what data is currently synced, go to that tab from the side bar and remove the checkmark. For example, if you click on Music you’d remove the checkmark next to ‘Sync Music’, then click Sync or Apply at the bottom right to have the sync happen.

The following article has some additional details and screenshots - Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer

You may also be seeing music that is available to be downloaded, music that was purchased from the iTunes Store and not music that is currently downloaded to or stored on your iPhone. You can disable that on your iPhone by going to Settings > Music and turning off 'Show All Purchases'.

Thanks.

wednesdaytgw,

To clarify, when you deleted albums from your iPhone, did you notice they were in fact deleted from anywhere else? While the warning is always great to receive, if it’s not actually removing anything then the message may be nothing to be concerned about.

Let’s check another thing. In Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Music it’s going to show you all the downloaded music. Do you see all that music appearing here? We want to be sure that the music isn’t showing as available to be downloaded, but isn't actually downloaded.

Thank you for checking.

I had it set up originally to not sync, I have my iPod set up to not sync

I wonder if it changed with an update? like some other settings, thank you...

but

I started to delete albums from my phone then noticed the note if I delete them from my phone it deletes them from all devices?

so, I can't have different music or not... on my devices? I don't use my phone for music... there really is no option for this?

I didn't pay attention to what I deleted, but, I can pick something I can re-load to delete and see what happens when I plug the ipod into itunes

yes, some music shows in >Music

confused though

shows three albums and one iTunes purchase in Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Music

using my "music" app/icon on the phone, there is a more music than shows in (settings music)

and, it plays, so, not a listing to download

Oct 30, 2021 12:08 PM in response to AnnieL2

it was on the phone, it plays when not connected to iTunes (no wifi)

an hour on the phone with apple today, I think we have all the various settings I never found that effect "sync" off now

looks like I will have to delete the albums one at a time, techs tried various ways to clear "music" didn't work

but, at least not moving new items, didn't move all new items... hopefully

both said something weird going on

Oct 30, 2021 12:10 PM in response to AnnieL2

if it is available to be downloaded, why does it play?

my "concern" is... I don't want music copied to my phone when did not want music copied to my phone

why use that space when I don't listen to music on my phone

contacted apple

I think we have all the different settings that effect "sync" off the weird thing is, it did not copy every new item from the library to the cell... only some things

thank you

wednesdaytgw,

If you’re using iCloud to sync data, or using Apple Music or iTunes Match, then deleting it from one device will delete it from all devices that are signed in with the same Apple ID and have iCloud or Sync Library enabled. On your iPhone if you go to Settings > Sync Library do you see that setting and if so, is it turned on?

Thanks.

under iCloud I found to use I could on this iPhone you must accept terms and conditions

I don't use or want to use icloud after finding it sharing material I thought I had not connected to iCloud

iCloud is "off"

under settings> (me/name) Apple, iCloud, Media & Purchases

I see

Desktop - ?????? Windows

Model

Version

Remove from accounts (in red)

not sure what that does

and

Wednesday - PC this device cannot be used to receive Apple ID verification codes

I don't see a "sync library"

under music I see "join Apple music millions of songs, and your entire library all in one place"

that was green, I turned it off.

show all purchases is also green but I have a purchased ring tone...

wednesdaytgw,

The majority of the music you’re seeing is available in your library and to be downloaded or streamed, though not currently downloaded. You can go to Settings > Music and turn off ‘'Show All Purchases’, if you prefer not to see it.

You had expressed a concern on turning that off and not seeing some purchased Tones. You can view those in Settings > Sounds > Ringtone. You’ll see downloaded tones appear at the top of the list along with an option to visit the Tones store or download all your purchased tones.
