series 5 -44mm not charging correctly after update to 8.0.1

I have to take the watch off the charger and put it back on every three or four minutes for it to continue charging after I did the update, it worked fine before I updated to 8.0.1 - does anyone know how to fix this? It’s really annoying, I thought the update was going to improve my watch not break it.


I thought it might be the charger so I bought a new one and it’s still doing the same thing.


Is this something they will correct with a future update or do I just have to accept that the update broke my watch and live with my decision to do the update?

Hello DJ_DTM,


It sounds like you aren't able to charge your Apple Watch as expected. What happens when you leave the watch on the charger and don't lift it up? Does it just stop charging? Have you tried to restart the watch to see if it improves the behavior?

heres what I’ve done to try and correct the problem, I’ve done a normal shut down and restart, no change.


I’ve done a hard restart, no change.


I’ve unpaired it and then paired it again, no change.


I factory reset it and reinstalled everything from the backup, it loaded up with the current firmware so no change.


If I leave it on the charger it just stops charging after about five minutes, if I remove it from the charger and put it back on it’ll usually charge for another five minutes or so before it stops again, every so often it’ll keep charging after about 5 or 6 times of being taken off the charger when it stops and being put back on the charger but it continuing to charge is rare and has only happened a few times.


As you can see It’s annoying, frustrating and really confusing, it worked flawlessly all this time until I updated to 8.0.1 and then it’s been nothing but problems.


8.1 didn’t make it any better unfortunately.

I’m ahead of you on that one, I contacted them and have an appointment to have it looked at tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully they will be able to get it fixed up for me, of course with my luck it’ll probably charge just fine when I get there and they will look at me like I’m the error with the watch lol.
