Your storage space is not expandable. You will need to delete or move your space hogging files like videos, movies, photos, etc. to an external drive. Then you can delete those from your internal drive. You need to maintain a minimum of 10 - 15 GB of empty space at all times for the OS to function. And the upgrade to Big Sur requires 35 - 45 GB of empty space to download, expand the installer, and install. By the way, if you fill up your drive completely, your computer will simply stop functioning.
