Need restriction over wifi networks

So I've seen this asked here and there but for the life of me I can't understand why Apple does not provide the ability to lock down the network options on the iPad (or iPhone, etc.). Unless you have your child sitting in front of you and you are monitoring their screen usage 100%, you need the device to be able to provide some options to govern how the device can be connected to the internet.

What is needed:

  1. Ability to restrict the wifi networks that the device connects to. Many households (and schools) implement parental supervision controls via their router so that it governs all traffic. But if the device connects to an unapproved SSID, then those controls are not in place. This could be implemented by requiring a Screentime passcode to connect to a new wifi, or by having a place within Screentime to add an approved SSID IP (some SSIDs are duplicate names, so can't go off name).
  2. Ability to prevent user from making ANY changes to network options, whether it is to change the settings on a particular network already joined, or to add a network, etc. For example, if a network is updated to make the MAC fixed, then that setting should NOT be allowed to be changed if the proposed Screentime network settings is set up as such.

Why, oh why are these very basic and very necessary settings not present? So many parents have shared how important these settings are for making our children more secure on these devices. Because of the way Apple continues to ignore these needs I will not be getting my children iPad tablets when they age out of their school iPads.

Sorry to sound snarky

But you were. I mentioned Parental Controls because I know there are a number of them contained there that deal with account settings, but I confess I did not look there since I do not have a need to restrict my usage on my device. I mentioned the statement about schools, because educational institutions have the ability to use MDM on their devices and can restrict the ability to make Settings changes. Given the restrictions they can use with that type of setup, it may be possible for them to restrict how wi-fi is used. It was just a suggestion if the device was managed by the school.

Since you understand that you can restrict your home network, and most networks are password protected, my guess is this is about accessing networks outside the home? These must be networks they are aware of?

As Rudegar provided, Apple gets its feedback through the link provided. They do not respond individually, but you could mention in this thread for others to provide feedback. That is how they get multiple requests about changes, it does not require an ID as you mention.

I'm sorry you seemed to take my response as unnecessary, but my intentions were for further understandings. I hope that Apple takes your suggestion seriously and can provide a solution.

At the end of your post, you make the comment, 'age out of their school iPads'. So are you saying these iPads belong to the schools and not you? If that is the case, my guess is the schools have retained control of the devices and you would need to address your concerns with the school about how they have configured controls on the devices. There are a number of parental controls within Screen Time for the iPad, you may wish to check into those settings if the school allows you to make setting changes on those devices.

I actually did, but unfortunately Apple support doesn't give you a feedback ID so that others can vote up your idea. What would be helpful is if others are frustrated by the same issue to use the links you provided to report their own feedback so that Apple sees this as an important miss in their OS. TBH, I guess this was more of a venting post, but perhaps some others with the same issue have figured out a workaround by an app or such, so I think it's still relevant to post here.
