Need restriction over wifi networks
So I've seen this asked here and there but for the life of me I can't understand why Apple does not provide the ability to lock down the network options on the iPad (or iPhone, etc.). Unless you have your child sitting in front of you and you are monitoring their screen usage 100%, you need the device to be able to provide some options to govern how the device can be connected to the internet.
What is needed:
- Ability to restrict the wifi networks that the device connects to. Many households (and schools) implement parental supervision controls via their router so that it governs all traffic. But if the device connects to an unapproved SSID, then those controls are not in place. This could be implemented by requiring a Screentime passcode to connect to a new wifi, or by having a place within Screentime to add an approved SSID IP (some SSIDs are duplicate names, so can't go off name).
- Ability to prevent user from making ANY changes to network options, whether it is to change the settings on a particular network already joined, or to add a network, etc. For example, if a network is updated to make the MAC fixed, then that setting should NOT be allowed to be changed if the proposed Screentime network settings is set up as such.
Why, oh why are these very basic and very necessary settings not present? So many parents have shared how important these settings are for making our children more secure on these devices. Because of the way Apple continues to ignore these needs I will not be getting my children iPad tablets when they age out of their school iPads.
