iOS update 15 and battery

Since installing iOS 15 and it’s two updates my iPad mini’s battery is heating up during charging, an the battery drains faster. Is there anything I can do to stop this?

If your Battery utilisation is excessively high post update, in particular if the iPad is becoming uncomfortably hot, a forced-restart of your iPad may be helpful. The restart will hopefully resolve any “hung” or misbehaving background processes:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

As already mentioned by frazzm737, your battery utilisation may be noticeably higher for a day or two while your iPad is finishing background housekeeping tasks - such as reindexing files and data. Normal behaviour should return within a day or two.
