if you still facing this issue follow below steps it might fix this issue

  1. sign out from your account
  2. complete erase your mobile.
  3. install the 16.2 using laptop.
  4. Now login but do not restore the data.
  5. switch off your mobile over night.
  6. check how much % was drained it will be 1-3 % only.
  7. if above statement is correct then use ur mobile for couple of hours after logging in the it but without restoring the data.
  8. now observe the battery. If this looks ok then restore the data
  9. now same night check how much battery was used after restoring the data.
  10. if battery drained too much after ur data then you know where is the problem.
  11. 99% of the time this will solve the issue.

one you follow this please update so that others will get confident.

I have found this process all by myself without Apple support.

no one helped me from Apple.

Hi ShubhangMundra,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

With battery usage increased, you want to check your battery settings for the battery's health, recommendations, and any apps that could be consuming more than necessary.

Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging and check that your maximum capacity is above 80%. 80% or lower and you will begin to see a difference in performance. Apple recommends that the battery be replaced at that level. In this same setting, right below Peak Performance Capability, check whether there are any performance or battery messages display. They may require service.

If nothing shows there, go back one setting to Settings > Battery and scroll down to usage by app and tap "Show Activity". You will see your listed apps with the amount of battery usage while running in the background and on screen.

Make changes to performance and background apps based on Apple's recommendations found in iPhone Battery and Performance.

Regards.

Same thing here. Iphone SE. Did not have an issue with my battery. Lasted all day, would charge it at night. No problem. Since updating to 16.2, literally, overnight, battery can not hold a charge. It was at a 100% charge at 8.30am, buy 11.30am it was down to 50% WITH NO USE! I then watched it for the next hour in which it dropped another 28%, again with NO USE, AND WHILE ON LOW POWER MODE!!!. I had to charge my phone again on an authentic apple charger by 12.30pm!!! Once charged again, I spent a couple of hours deleting unused apps, updating other apps, putting it in dark mode, turning off all notifications and background use, followed by a soft restart. In the space of an hour and a half it has already dropped 5%, again WITH NO USE! This is ridiculous. I am furious. As a phone it is useless to me. I am not a big phone user, a bit of whats app, checking emails and a couple of safari searches at the most. I don't think a new battery will solve the problem as I have 88%.

I think apple phone support is geared at new users and elderly folks who need a quick recovery. I have stopped bothering with them as well because of what you described: reformat, do not restore etc. it’s like asking you to throw all your furniture and memories out of your house and not put them back. An absolute no Go.

anyway, I use and recommend logging a detailed bug report on feedback.Apple.com. At least they read that.

The advice didn’t help. Since 16 every update of iOS causes permanent battery drain. The problem continued for almost a month till iOS got an update that fixed the issue. After the update phone worked ok. And now with 16.2 the same problem appears again. Guys, did you try to test what you are doing?

I am also facing same issue.

i have reached out to apple support they are not willing to help as well.

they are saying we are checking ,checking and checking. Every time they are asking me to format my device and then asking not to restore my data. Which is causing more trouble and they don’t want to understand this as well. Every time they want some more info. So my advice to you is do not reach out to apple support because they have no idea what to do and they will ask you to format your device again and again which will cause more trouble.

Just for record this is not happening for the first time apple does this every year whenever they launch new mobile. They send some bugs in old mobiles to drain more batteries.

this is standard behaviour of apple.

based on this i am assuming this issue will be fixed automatically by April or may. Before this apple will let its consumers suffer so that we are buying new device.

Hello, its either another BATTERYGATE from Apple or something not right with iOS 16.2

i am using iPhone 11 Pro Max - was perfect on 16.1.2 - lasted near 7-8 hours SOT

after 16.2 on idle drops around 5% an hour...no background activity - my iPhone shows 4.30hr sot web browsing mainly and i have 30% left and its decreasing. Battery life remaining 92%

Apple will lose a lot of loyal customers if this is not resolved any time soon as it has been some time now since ios 16.2 was released

Apple should concentrate resolving current issues and not developing more BETA's with more bugs and issues to come

I am really considering moving to Android as Android has evolved so much compared to few years back.

If next update from apple doesn't fix the battery drain - i will be leaving Apple. i am due to renew my mobile device and iPad, but i don't really want to change it to another apple product due to the issue that has been there for a while now and still no solution

These days apple solution is to RESTORE TO FACTORY for every issue opposed to try and address and resolve the issue

A 7month old phone at 92% battery already.

After 10years of not using an iPhone I bought an iPhone SE just last year to get a more long lasting phone; and now the first update my 2022 model phone has the battery life of an at least 4-5 year old phone, this is disappointing and shameful and seems a deliberate action to make phones obsolete to be upgraded. Apple shame on you.
