Mail deleted items disappearing

A weird thing is happening to my deleted mail items in iCloud recently

In Mail Preferences/Account/Mailbox Behaviours, I always had it set as erase deleted messages after one month but noticed messages were disappearing after a week. I changed the setting to erase 'Never' but I can still only see messages that are less than a week old.

Is there another setting I need to change??

As per the article Change Mailbox Behaviours preferences in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

Erase deleted messages

Choose when you want Mail to erase deleted messages. To avoid exceeding storage limits set by your email account provider, choose a setting other than Never.

If you select None for Bin Mailbox, you can have messages permanently deleted automatically.

If your email account provider sets up the server to delete older messages, the messages are deleted regardless of how you change this option.
