IOS 15.1 not receiving text message notifications on lock screen

After update to IOS 15.1 I'm not receiving text message notifications when lock screen is on. I have enable "show on lock screen" and "show previews", Do Not Disturb is disabled. iPhone 11 Pro. I've also restarted phone.

So I just went into the apple store and they told me it is because I have an Apple Watch. Apparently, when an Apple Watch is synced to an iPhone, all the notifications of through the watch…there will not be notifications on the phone.

I also had the notifications turned off on my watch (not on my phone)…so I turned my watch notifications on and now it all works through my watch…which frankly sucks. I don’t want the notifications going through my watch, I want them going through my iPhone…but it doesn’t work that way now.

I have this problem independent of "Lock Screen". I am not receiving text notifications. This matters a great deal since I am not getting log-in security codes from my financial accounts or other personal accounts and so cannot log into those accounts. Text messaging has been around since the dawn of the cell phone, how can this simple feature possibly be non-functional in an Apple iphone product in 2022, ios 15.2.1? This is ridiculous. None of the suggested fixes described in this thread has worked for me.

RockyMtnMamaTarot...I tried that (turning on "badges") and it seemed to work and then didn't my issue seems to be random sometimes I'll receive notification (sound), mind you this is when phone is locked which is most of the time. My adult children hardly ever call but they love texting as most ppl do (I DON"T) I'm pretty fed up with Apple as a whole.

Yes, I can still read texts but what good is that if you get a text like "I'll be there in an hour running late" and you only find out when they arrive saying "I texted you", you look at text and sure enough they did text...are we supposed to be constantly checking manually...this is a major issue. This happens to me randomly (but more often than not) and only when my screen is locked which is all the time (if I'm not using phone)

I've had the same issue (11 pro max on ios 15.3). It appeared out of nowhere. I found this solution which seems to have worked - no idea why and it makes no sense but worth a try before doing a reset as it seems to have solved things for me (apologies if it was posted earlier in the chain). Turn off and on the "Announce Notifications" feature for messages - go to Settings, then Notifications, then Siri Suggestions, then turn Allow Notifications off, exit out of the Settings app, then re-enter it and turn it back on.

This problem has been going on for too long and it’s absurd that apple can’t seem to fix the issue. Me and my girlfriend have been having the same issue for almost a year now. I’ll be waiting for a text and get no notifications only to find that they sent something an hour ago. Both got new phones in the past few months and nothings changed. The texts don’t even show up on the notifications tab when you swipe from the top and all my message notifications are on.

I have this issue with ONE contact and of course it is the person that I text the most. My GF thought I was ignoring her or that I was being "shady". Thanks for that Apple.

I do not have an Apple watch, but my GF does. So maybe it's a watch issue on her side? Not sure, but she gets all my texts and I get none of hers.

I have tried every suggested fix and nothing works. This is obviously an IOS issue that needs to be resolved ASAP. If this starts to impact my work I will have no choice but to switch to a more reliable OEM.

This happened to me when I got my iPhone 13 Pro almost from day one. I spent hours on the phone with customer care, took it to the store…twice…even got a replacement device. The first time I was told that it was a watch pairing issue. Unpaired it, and re-paired it and it worked…for about a week…and then back to the same problem. I did hard resets, restored to factory settings and set up as a new device (which was an AWFUL process and I ended up losing some of my stuff), but the problem still existed. I unpaired and turned my watch COMPLETELY off, didn’t fix it. There were some settings that looked like they could be related to the issue so I turned them off…I also unpaired my iPad and turned it off. Still having the issue.

now for the crazy part….

all of a sudden…and for NO REASON…it just stopped happening. I hadn’t done anything to try and fix it…no updates…nothing. I just wasn’t having the problem…as much. Every once in a while it’ll do it, but RARELY…which is still EXTREMELY annoying and this problem should’ve been fixed by now. $1,100 for a new phone that has THIS VERY BIG ISSUE? Ridiculous. It’s pretty disappointing that Apple hasn’t put any priority into fixing this issue.

my suggestion is to be the squeaky wheel with Apple Support….call every day and let them know you still have the problem. Eventually, there might be a resolution…but I wouldn’t hold my breath at this point.

I just checked my phone (iPhone 11) and mine was set to "when unlocked" I just now switched to "Always" the frustrating thing is with the phone locked I sometimes will still get notification sound (prior to switching to "Always" how could that be? Anyway, I think this started when I updated to 15.1.1 it's now running 15.3.1 and still having the issue (no notification sound for messages) I won't know if changing it to "Always" helped yet as I need someone to message me. Still curious when iPhone is locked why would I sometimes receive sound notification?

IMO there are 2 things I absolutely hate about iPhones, 1. zero documentation (instructions). and 2. Too many settings to set AND OK 3. everything is symbols (where or how is a user supposed to know what they mean?)

The "squeaky wheel", that should the media ABC,NBC,CBS,FOX,CNN...maybe then Apple might do something about this issue.

Doing a "hard reset" is beyond my expertise and backing up everything is time consuming over a thousand dollars for a phone that doesn't reliably receive messages? Maybe Apple should have MORE settings for one application (joking). I mean make sure this is turned on, this is off, that is on,..it's a rabbit hole Apple has created

Adding my name to the list of people complaining about this issue. I have had this issue for a long while now, when I had my iPhone 8 and now the 13. Restarts, resets, unpairing and repairing and manipulating notification settings has not fixed this issue. Ultimately, this post lead me to confirm it only occurs when I'm wearing my Apple watch, with the statements confirmed of "its just how it works now when paired with an Apple watch". When my watch is on my wrist and my phone is locked, absolutely no notifications, and when I remove the watch it works as expect. I tested this with my wife's phone and watch as well. Same exact issue with two different devices. This is the absolutely the worst feature that no amount of settings adjustments seems to be able to change. It's gotten me in trouble with personal and work relationships because I constantly miss the fact that I've been contacted. You're now forcing me to stop using a product I paid money for, and forget even considering upgrading at this point, so there goes that potential revenue Apple. I can't risk wearing the watch any longer.
