iOS 15.1 broke connectivity to my car stereo

I am having the exact same problem. I have a 2013 Chevy Cruze and since the update I cannot use my phone in my car. I use my phone daily to help me get back and forth to work and home. So this a super inconvenience for me. I hope they can fix the problem because getting a new car or stereo is not a practical solution for this problem.

I personally thought I was the only one until I search it up. I updated my phone last night and today in the morning I started to have this problem. I unplugged it over and over again. I restarted my phone but it contacted. iPhone has made a mistake in the update.

Yes, and at least Mercedes also sources their head ends from Panasonic, the same as the GM vehicles mentioned here.

Yes, and it works perfectly in my 2011 Toyota and on all the devices I have available, which makes it so frustrating.

I never said it was the CarPlay interface, I can select whether I want audio from my phone speakers or via the car stereo when connected to my Toyota via USB.

Yes, I am having the same issue today after doing the software update on my 11 Pro Max last night, my ‘12 Honda Accord will not work with a USB connection to lightning. Never had an issue with until today.

I have…and they keep telling me that it’s GMs problem; completely dismissing the fact that my phone worked with the stereo 2 hours before the update. I even had a live person tell my that I need to “update your car”. When I asked him to explain himself, he said, “just get a new one”.

Yup. Having the same issue right now. It's def a software bug as I was going to take it into the dealership but seeing this, Apple must fix this. I need my speakers for music while charging and driving!

Did anyone notice their Bluetooth connectivity ‘dropping out’ mid calls with 15.0? This was happening on almost a daily basis. However, when 15.1 came out the music connectivity stopped working, but coincidentally don’t appear to be losing Bluetooth connectivity. I’m wondering if they’ve fixed one issue but caused another?

Yeah, I have the 12 ProMax. Call me crazy, but when I spend over $1000 on a freaking phone, I’d like for a software update to actually NOT screw up something else. I drive a 2011 RS LT2 Camaro. I take excellent care of everything I own. So there’s no damage to anything.

Why is it so hard for Apple to check code before pushing a new release to screw up their HORRIBLE release of an IPhone 12 ProMax. Worst phone I’ve ever owned. I had to have FIVE replacements within a year. During my “upgrade” period, I actually downgraded to an XS Max like I previously owned that was such a great phone. That’s right, I took an older refurbished XS Max to get rid of all the problems plaguing the 12 Pro Max. One software update to 15.1 and they wipe out connectivity. Awesome.

My 12 Pro Max had no issues whatsoever, and I don't have this issue.

I don't say this to belittle your problems, but rather than to say that just because you have an issue does not mean that it's universal.

This current issue did not break USB audio on all systems or even most systems. It broke it on some systems.

Apple does a lot of testing, but they can't test every possible configuration.

I did not say it was not an issue, and I specifically stated in a previous comment it is a big deal for those affected and I in no way mean to belittle that.

I stated it was not a universal issue, meaning USB playback did not stop working for every vehicle or other device.

Same issue here. My iPhone 13 Pro Max worked fine with the factory stereo in my 2012 Chevy Cruze until I upgraded to 15.1. My phone charges, but does not communicate with the stereo anymore. I thought it might have been an issue with my lightning cable, so I tried a different one and had the same result.

It’s been 2 days and I’m still waiting for a call back from the supervisor…or even a email response. I can use the 3.5 auxiliary input to play through the factory system, but I risk getting a citation for using my phone while driving, as the steering wheel and physical radio buttons do not work with the Aux port.

The vast majority of people posting here have a mid-2010s Chevy Cruze or other GM vehicle.

If you don't happen to have one of the vehicles on which the phone fails, you won't see it.

As I've stated I also know many people not having the issue with cars from Ford, Mercedes, Porsche, and Toyota.

It may seem obvious they should have known when an issue happens to you, but it's not.

That's in no way belittling your issue, just giving background.

Stating that neither I nor anyone I know has seen the issue is every bit as helpful as any other post here, as it makes it clear the feature is not just broken for everyone and reinforces that if it is broken for you it is imperative you contact Apple Support so they can build a database of who it is broken for.

Given the information here, it's obvious the engineer tasked to work on this should sniff the USB traffic while interacting with a 2014 or so Chevy Cruze.

I personally had to Google the car as I don't believe I've ever even seen a Chevy Cruze before, something that will vary by area.
