iOS 15.1 broke connectivity to my car stereo

I own a 2014 Chevy Cruze. It has the factory default stereo in it.

The radio looks like this:

Prior to the iOS 15.1 update, when I plugged my iPhone Xr in to the car, the stereo would detect the iPhone, switch to it and I could play anything on the phone using a Lightning cable plugged into the car's USB port.

I took my wife's iPhone 12, which has iOS 14.8.1 on it, and it worked fine. I upgraded to 15.1 and again it stopped working.

I plug either phone in, they start to charge, but the stereo no longer detects the phone.

The obvious workaround is to just plug the aux cable into the headphone jack on the... Oh wait...

This is obviously a bug in iOS 15.1. I called Apple and reported it. I'm trying to send logs to Apple now.

The following are NOT correct answers:

  1. Get a new car
  2. Get a new car stereo

If you're going to say either of those in your comments, don't bother commenting.

If you've seen this in your car and have figured out how to fix it, please feel free to share.

If not, this is just a heads up that you may experience this issue if you have an older stereo in your car

I know I can use the Lightning to 3.5 mm adapter, and that is my current workaround. But I can't do that and charge the phone at the same time, which is going to be a problem for long trips with GPS.

No audio after installing 15.1

Just called Apple support.

tech recommended I ‘reset all settings’

settings->general->transfer or reset iPhone-> reset->reset all settings.

worked like a charm.

Okay well it’s also not difficult to realize that it’s highly likely that it happened to at least 1 person.

Yes, different vehicles are popular in different regions, and multiple different makes and models are listed here which covers a large area.

Again, I’m so glad it’s not happening to you personally, but there are pages and pages of people looking for help. Repeatedly stating you can’t find a device that doesn’t work is not helpful to those it is happening to.

Oh I have the same **** issue!!

When I plugged my iPhone with Spotify running, my Chevy doesn’t react like before(below ios15.1)

Wonder why this happened on some older GM models, my car is 2011 Camaro and I believe the radio system is designed for “iPod” (however the system is capable of playback via Bluetooth but it sounds horrible)

And I just plugged my iPod nano, everything backed on life….There’s definitely something wrong with the current iOS update.

Please fix this asap!!!!

Hi I own a Cadillac SRX and since the update 15.1 my pandora and music won’t play in my car anymore. I contacted apple they said to contact pandora but it’s not pandora that has the issue. It’s driving me crazy I can’t listen to my music . I even bought a new usb and that’s not the problem. I was fine until the update. Please someone help me

Apple one of my favorite things is to drive and listen to my Spotify playlists. Listening to poor quality radio, is not cutting it. Please fix this, my 2013 Chevy Cruze is in great shape and when these issues happen with the overly expensive iPhones, it really makes you regret it.

the 15.1 update did nothing to resolve this.

I’m glad to see the other people are having this problem and it is not just me, but it is so annoying. I woke up one day and went to go out to my car to plug it in and listen to music and it didn’t work all of a sudden. Same issue plugging in other peoples phones who haven’t updated and they work fine. i’ve tried several different cords, and all they do is charge the phone. The radio doesn’t understand that I’m trying to connect my phone. The Bluetooth works fine and I am able to connect my phone and talk, but cannot use the music. One big reason I bought my 2012 Chevy Cruz was because of the aux. I really hope that this can be fixed soon.

I’m so disappointed with apple iOS update, I spoke to a senior tech I really thought he knew what he was talking about I he told me to buy a usb that’s Mfi certified and also said my Bose dock too was getting old. That’s why it’s not reading the update. The problem was never fixed with my car and dock .
