Quicktime video recording stops at 10:55 in MacOS Monterey

Since upgrading to MacOS Monterey, Quicktime Player now stops recording at 10 minute and 55 seconds. I can no longer record any video segments longer than that. Prior to upgrading, I routinely recorded Quicktime videos in excess of one hour.

I've confirmed that this behavior occurs both with the built-in Mac camera and an external Logitech Brio camera.

It is resolved. I made the adjustment with the battery options... Make sure that all boxes in "Battery" option are unchecked except "Optimized battery charging" and "Show battery status in menu bar" and go to "Power Adapter" option to uncheck all boxes. It is important that "Turn display off after:" changed to "Never" on both "Battery" and "Power Adapter". I tested it and the camera recording ran more than 20 minutes without abruptly stopped it.

This is how to fix it on a MacBook Pro M1: Here is what you do. Go to system settings>screen saver>turn off screen saver. Then go to battery>Battery make sure optimize video streaming while on battery (if off charger) and then move the slider in Turn off Display After to anytime after an hour or so. Also make sure if you’re using an external webcam (I use a Logitech 920c Streaming webcam) that you record at High, not Maximum. I am still trying to figure out that out, but I have a call with apple tech tomorrow. Will update what happened here. Good luck, reach out if you need anymore help.

I also have a 2020 iMac 4K Retina that still stops at 10:55 but only with an external webcam. I don’t have any issues on either machine just using the built in webcam, only external.

I have considered going to OBS as well, but I prefer the simplicity of QuickTime and I have no real need for the additional features of OBS.

I have been through at least two phone sessions with a friendly Apple tech, and I was instructed to send debug data back to Apple. They have yet to call me back, so after Christmas, I will contact support again with the active case number. I was hoping the most recent Monterey update would have fixed it, but recordings still end at 10:55. Photo Booth also won't work for recording video as it doesn't record sound off my USB capture device, and the video is reversed (though that can be easily fixed with FCP)

Another Apple tech in a support chat also suggest reinstalling macOS. I feel that is rather extreme as besides QuickTime, I've been having no issues with Monterey, and I would have to spend an hour or two setting up all of my preferred apps to what they were before.
