MBP (M1 Pro) SD card slot slowdown

Sharing the same issue, but I may have found a solution.

My slow issues were with UHS-I cards, where the read/write time impacted PS Bridge's ability to process the previews, especially when building out the cache for a new SD card in the MBP 2021 SD card slot.

Today I swapped out the SD card for the same brand, but UHS-II speed - completely different experience. Response was back to being snappy using the built-in SD card slot on the 2021 MBP. Everything from thumbnail previews to high res previews was snappy, as well as scrolling through the images in Bridge.

I'll do more testing, but right now I'm looking at retiring my old UHS-I cards over time and believe that moving to UHS-II may mitigate the issue.

I have the same issue with my 2021 M1 Max 16" MBP

SD cards read ok on a 3rd party USB-C reader, but slow to a crawl on the built-in MBP slot - especially when doing extended reads for cache generation in photoshop bridge for example. This looks like a bug and needs addressing ASAP.

If you think you might have received a lemon, you can return your new Mac within 14 days of receiving it, and get a replacement.

are you just seeing the slowness with photoshop/Lightroom?

I noticed Adobe bridge is the only app still running under Rosetta II instead of native.

this may be a contributory factor for my case.

I’ve had the same problem except not only memory card slot being slow it’s Final Cut Pro as well. They both literally took 2hrs to load 4 days ago. Everything is updated. It also seems my 2019 16” with the I7 processor was faster then this Mac 16” with the M1 pro chip. Why is that?

Correct, I received my MBP 14 M1 Pro base model yesterday and facing slow ness of SDXC-1 and SDHC-1 reading slowness issue in file manager as well as on Mac version of Canon DPP editor.
