MBP (M1 Pro) SD card slot slowdown

Yesterday I received the new MacBook Pro 16" with M1 Pro chip. When I insert an SD-card from my Canon DSLR (exFAT format) into the built-in SD card slot everything initially seems to work fine, but after some seconds the reading slows down to a crawl: video playback off the card stutters and copying even a 200mb file takes much too long, longer than when I use my external SD-card dongle via USB-C (with that same SD card, that is).

So the card seems to work fine, but the MBP's card slot doesn't perform as it should. Anyone encounter a similar issue? Thanks! Lukas

Sharing the same issue, but I may have found a solution.

My slow issues were with UHS-I cards, where the read/write time impacted PS Bridge's ability to process the previews, especially when building out the cache for a new SD card in the MBP 2021 SD card slot.

Today I swapped out the SD card for the same brand, but UHS-II speed - completely different experience. Response was back to being snappy using the built-in SD card slot on the 2021 MBP. Everything from thumbnail previews to high res previews was snappy, as well as scrolling through the images in Bridge.

I'll do more testing, but right now I'm looking at retiring my old UHS-I cards over time and believe that moving to UHS-II may mitigate the issue.
