Logitech Brio on Monterey - VERY SLOW - 2 second

After upgrading to Monterey, most (but not all) of my camera apps have a 2 second lag on them with a Logitech Brio on Monterey. More specifically, the VTDecoderXPCService goes to 92-94% on Activity monitor, and the efficiency score usage shows it pegged out.

Apps that don't work:

Ecamm - Always lags

OBS - Sometimes lags

Logitech G Hub settings app - Sometimes lags

Apps that always work:

Microsoft Teams

Facetime

I suspect that there is something about the way these video apps use the OS to do more processing on color, zoom, crop, etc. that has different results on Monterey than on Big Sur.

At first, I thought it was Ecamm, but after much testing, I now believe it is Monterey itself, or at least the interaction between Monterey and the BRIO cam.

Glen from Ecamm here. We were able to investigate this today. It appears that the issue is with 4K. (Only certain apps, including Ecamm and OBS can run cams in 4K, so that explains why video chat apps are not affected.)

The problem appears to be that Monterey is not offering up a JPEG-compress feed from Logitech cameras. Only an uncompressed stream is offered.) Unfortunately this appears to be a bug in Monterey. The only workaround we're aware of so far is to not use a 4K stream size.

This is entirely up to Logitech to resolve as they alone are responsible for their product compatibility with Apple operating systems. Contact Logitech, and don't settle for finger-pointing at Apple, as Logitech has had access to the Monterey software development kit as long as other vendors.

Logitech may have been waiting for the official release of Monterey before providing updates to their software, or possibly a firmware update for the Brio, if it has that capability.
