I had same problem with my iPhone 12 Pro Max after upgrading to iOS 15.1. After troubleshooting with online support and then at the genus bar, we decided to perform a device reset but kept the data on the device. Since then I’ve restored my phone’s normal battery life of practically a full days use like I had before. Hope that helps someone else facing this issue.

Exactly, my five month old iPhone 12 Pro Max, both of my iPad Pros, and an iPhone XS Max were fine. Then I installed iOS 15.1 on all devices simultaneously.

I now get barely 4-5 hours of use on my iPhone 12 Pro before I get the warning that my battery is getting low.

All four devices now have significantly degraded battery life, especially my iPhone 12 Pro and my newer iPad Pro. All at the same time and all coinciding with iOS 15.1.

Fix the problem Apple,

ps. I lost 5% of battery just responding here.

This is a software issue - not a hardware issue.

I was chatting with Apple support yesterday and they steadfastedly toe the line that it's not the fault of the iOS, it's not the fault of Apple and it's down to the user. The sheer hubris from Apple is unbelievable and even when I called out the only difference is the version of the iOS, the answer was still "no it's not the iOS". Yesterday's battery stats for me are 3hr 24 mins screen on time, 32 mins of which was Safari and yet it used 32% of the battery in that time. Yes, there are other apps not optimised for 15.1 but they don't leak battery life as badly as Safari does. Other things which use excessive battery are all iOS native apps e.g. Mail, Settings, Home & Lock Screen etc. Unfortunately Apple just refuse to believe it's their issue and I need to switch off background app refresh, dim the brightness (even though I never have above 20% brightness), clear the Safari cache daily, switch off bluetooth (which I only switch on when I use my headphones). I was even given the "have you tried turning it off and on again?" routine. This is the first update I've had since getting my 12 Pro Max I've had with battery life. I'm very careful with my battery and it's only recently gone to 99% battery health (unsurprisingly it dropped to that when 15.1 was installed and before that was still 100%). It's a really **** poor attitude from Apple that they can't admit it's their fault and that they're looking into it.

Just to update everyone on this thread on my ongoing dialogue with Apple Support. Following a conversation with them, engineering had recommended that I charge my iPhone 12PM fully to 100%, and then use normally but take the battery to 1%. Then repeat that process and then charge and use normally and then send them screenshots of the last 24 hours of battery usage. That was all completed and submitted and the last set of logs are currently being reviewed by Apple engineering. I have also provided them a link to this community page so that they can recognise this isn't an isolated issue. I have a callback currently scheduled with Apple for next week where I'm hoping to get some more information after they've analysed the logs. From the description that I've provided, my phone is heating up directly where the motherboard for the phone is (i.e it's not the battery itself that is running hot - it's the processing). What I've also observed is that it runs hotter quicker when I'm using apps which are not predominantly on device i..e going through eithe Wi-Fi or mobile network (through the mobile network it runs hotter quicker). I'll update this community thread when I have further news.

It is not just Safari, apps on ios 15.1 (or any iOS 15) are power hungry. Drains battery fast. I am using iPhone 11 and its just 4 months old. Should have stayed on factory shipped version of iOS 14. If apple is allowing users to stay on IOS 14 then it’s only logical to keep iOS 14.8 signed so that iphone owners can continue using iOS 14. iOS 15 is the problem.

Unfortunately, your wise trick of 'rebooting' did not 'aid' the predicament. I did not comment in my above points: I had switched of Siri, and for every APP I switched off Background Refresh and Mobile Data: again as if I had my old iPhone 6. I will await for 48 hours to see if updates are sent, as it would seem this discussion is relevant many parties.

I thought a new day luck would prevail, unfortunately no good news. I tested by playing a 4.55 minute song where the battery decreased by over 3%, just one song! on a beautiful new iPhone 13 Pro Max. I switched off everything, where there was no background activities ( I will no poor you with all the settings). I was playing HiFi on 15.0.2 and the battery needle did not even flinch. THERE IS A BUG WITH 15.1 Today, I noticed the battery was 'warm'! Can a battery be 'frazzled' by an iOS update?

I have stopped both battery drain, drainage and/or drop and heat. There are two aspects to my solution: 1. ‘Stop’ 15.0 turned functionality in 15.1: just work through ‘Settings’ and ‘turn-off’; 2. ‘Stop’ both Apple Apps and 3rd party Apps that are not compliant to the new settings imposed by 15.1, which were dormant in 15.0, 15.0.1 and/or 15.0.2. Main Apps which drain are Safari, Mail, Stock and associated News, 3rd party Anti-Virus, Settings and App Store.

Me too, the iphone is consuming a lot of battery since the update. I’ve updated two XS MAX and one XR, and all three have the same issue. Battery health’s are 100%, 97%, 89%. Moreover, since I updated my Apple Watch Series 4 and 5 to the latest watchOS 8.1, both have lost more than 10-15% of battery life, and both have the battery health at 99%. No soft reset/restart nor switching the devices on and off has sorted this issue. It seems that Apple will have to release an new software update very soon as so many have battery drain issues having different iPhones and also the same happens with the Apple Watch.

I’ve got exactly the same problem, been running 15.1 for about a week after updating to it straight from 14.8 , I’ve been waiting for reports of any bugs in the initial 15 release before updating after not seeing anything obvious of concern I decided to take the plunge and update now wish I hadn’t

i’m running an iPhone se 1st gen with a battery health maximum capacity reeding of 77%

for the first week I had no problems at all , but since yesterday battery drain has been abysmal from 100% charge gone 88% in the space of half hour and instead of the indicator dropping 1% at a time it’s dropping around 6% in one ie 1% drops every 2 seconds

I always use low power mode to last me through the day but since last night the indicator isn’t dropping at all when in this mode and when I take it off it drops about 20% or I have to restart or power down for the gauge to reset

Apple really needs to sort this out as I fully believe it’s a bug in latest update, I’ve turned off background app refresh, but that hasn’t seem to worked and don’t know what else I can do?
