What - all jpg files?
Are they on an external drive? If the drive is ExFAT, there is a bug in earlier versions of Big Sur, that prevents photos importing them. Try putting them in a folder on your desktop first and trying there.
Alternatively if they won't open from the desktop, can you open them in Preview? If you can, then I suggest restarting your mac in safe mode, and then trying.
I didn't make myself clear. The problem is importing JPG images from the Desktop or Pictures folder(s) into Photos. Suddenly it won't accept any JPG images as an "unrecognizable file format." Worked before, not working now either opening Photos first and using "Import" or dragging and dropping from the desktop.
The file folder was already on the desktop, not in external drive; the files opened in Preview and Finder. Restarting in safe mode doesn’t do anything. Are you saying the problem is in the OS and not in Photos?
Have you tried my suggestions/questions?
Does the underscore mean AdobeRGB colorspace?
Can you try some with sRGB?
Don’t know what the underscore means; I just assumed it was part of Nikon’s naming structure. In any case, I took your suggestion, reset the camera to sRGB but it made no difference.
