iMessage crashing on iOS 15.1 and iPhone 13 Pro

I get this sporadically throughout the day. The temporary fix is to do the following:

1. Go into multi task view (swipe up and right).
2. Close the iMessage app by swiping up on the card.
3. Re-launch iMessage from your home screen.

I've found that sometimes after the initial close, the keyboard will fail to load in the app. Closing and relaunching a second time seems to fix this issue.

As for a long term fix, it seems like Apple has a major bug to address.

You assume this issue is widespread; it’s not.

Your best bet for resolution is to work the issue directly with Apple Support so that they can better determine what may be causing it.

It is a good idea to call them , just spoke to support and issues may have been related to some settings not copying over correctly when I upgraded. If you call them they can screen share and help solve / check very efficient.

Just an update I am working with support to solve they are seeing it as an unusual occurrence and so far not able to resolve for me so having a call with tech next week after trying some changes. My suggestion is call them open a ticket so they become aware of the problem. Calling support by voice best approach.

Definitely something tied to iMessage as it locks for me and can effect phone calling function as well , without a restart takes a good 10-15mins to come right again. So please if have problem open a support ticket!!

As I said, keep Apple Support up to date directly, as this is a quite rare situation that most have never seen.

I also have a 13 Pro Max and have never seen this issue nor have any of the other users I know.

Be sure to keep Apple Support updated directly, as there is something unique to your device/configuration (and that of some others) causing this when most have no such issues, and it’s virtually impossible for engineering to solve a problem they cannot reproduce themselves.

For anyone experiencing this, I recommend taking your phone in to be examined; I have a 13 Pro Max and have never seen this.

It crashes for me on iPhone 13 mini and pro , both. This started after 15.1.1. Only rebooting the phone helps. That also doesn’t work sometimes.

Having the same issue. Have to restart phone, nothing else works. Iphone xs max with 15.1.

I am having the same issue. Messages crashing on my iPhone 13 Pro and even force closing it will not resolve the issue. It will randomly start working again on its own. Which is especially difficult when trying to do something like receive a two-factor authentication text and the messages just wont appear because the app won't work. Apple, please fix ASAP!

It is also affecting the 12 pro as well.
