ipod only syncs 10 songs in a playlist

when i try to sync my playlist in itunes/apple music (btw, all songs are downloaded and in mp3 format) only 10 out of the 17 songs on my playlist actually sync. it's always the same 10 songs. when i try manual sync, the iPod isn't recognizing the songs in the folder. it's pretty hard to find info on this because iPod are getting pretty old, so i was hoping someone here knew.

(it's an iPod classic 5th gen)

thanks in advance!

Subscription content from the Apple Music service is subject to DRM and is only supposed to work within iTunes, Music, or iOS devices when downloaded to them using your Apple ID. Apple surely don't sanction using third-party tools to remove DRM, whatever you claim. Either the tool you have works, or it doesn't. If it works, and produces something playable in other software, e.g. VLC, then one would expect those copies to be playable in a 5th gen. classic too. If they don't then you've already had a suggestion of what to do. Convert once more to some other compatible format, and see if that can be added to the library and then synced to your device.

oh my goodness, thank you for replying!! (i was starting to get worried, I'm just a kid who spent a long time trying to save money for an iPod and have been trying this for a while) the songs play just fine, and they were originally from apple music but i used a converter to make them mp3. i made sure i could do that and it wouldn't be illegal because in the end it's only me listening to the music. it lets me sync and play the songs just fine, but only 10 out of the 17 songs i have on my playlist. (also, i posted another question about an iPod nano if you happened to know the answer)

no, it's not. i'm not keeping the songs to use after my subscription is up, just using them as i would on any other device. (also, i already paid for the subscription to apple music. and i bought the converter. and i bought the iPod. to my knowledge, which keep in mind isn't just me. both my parents say it's fine too. I'm not distributing the mp3 files, I'm just putting them on my own iPod) the problem isn't that i converted them. they work in iTunes just fine. the problem is when i go to sync that playlist, only 10 of the songs are synced. the same 7 (whether in that playlist or not) do not sync. i just called apple support and the guy i talked with was super nice, and we tried everything. do you know why the 7 specific songs don't show up?

it's an apple device, i thought it could do it. i know my mom has some CDs in the basement, so i might only be able to listen to those. welp- time to save even MORE money for songs in iTunes. still, my question hasn't been answered. regardless of if it's converted or not, what happens if a perfectly working iPod classic with perfectly playable mp3s refuses to sync some songs?

edit; i know this is kinda of not relevant, but does anyone know of any good things a kid can do to make some money? I'm not old enough to get a real job so just looking for some legal things an actual child can do :P

edit 2; can a kid get sued?

edit 3; i talked to apple support and showed the converter, the guy said that because it's old technology that doesn't support apple music even though it's made by apple, it would be perfectly fine to put the songs on the iPod unless you cancel the apple music subscription.

thanks for all the help anyways! i'm surprised no one's closed it already.

hopefully i can find all the CDs my mom has :D

also, my parents let me make submissions to the site! I've always loved apple products so I've been on here loads of times, even if I'm not the one posting anything. so yeaaaa i think I'm allowed to be here.

everywhere else the terms were kind of unclear, so i actually really appreciate all the help even if I've found out what I'm doing might not be legal. all this stuff is super fascinating to me now!

sorry for wasting your time, it's been a long couple of days and i haven't always been able to respond because school :')

again, thanks for all the help!!

have a nice day :D

well - okay. i called apple support and everyone's said it's fine.

What's fine, converting Apple Music to another format in order to get round a restriction designed to prevent you from making an unprotected copy for yourself?

It isn't fine, you will be in breach of your contract with Apple (read into this; "it's against the law") and what's more, discussions here in the Apple forum about circumventing such restrictions are forbidden by Apple. I'm fairly certain that you would have agreed to abide by both policies (not attempting to create unprotected versions and not discussing attempts to create unprotected versions) when you signed up with Apple Music and for the forum here.

So, let's start again:

  • if the music that will not copy to your iPod is originally from Apple Music, then it cannot be added to an iPod Classic
  • any attempt to get around that restriction, including, but not limited to, converting the music to an unprotected format would put you in breach of your agreement with Apple, that you agreed to abide by, when you signed up for Apple Music
  • if you have managed to create a copy, but that copy will not go onto the iPod either, then there is nothing anyone here can suggest. Nothing.
  • MacOS will not provide you with a solution, you will face the same restriction. Even if it did, are you seriously suggesting that you would buy (or get your parents to buy you) a Mac rather than paying a small sum for a legitimate (purchased) copy of the songs?
  • all your claims:
    • it's only you listening to the music
    • you won't keep a copy when you subscription ends (I regard that one with particular amusement)
    • you've already paid for the subscription (which does not mean you get to make your own copy)
    • you've paid for the convertor and the iPod (that doesn't help the musician, does it?)
    • your parents say it's okay
    • Apple told you it's ok (but what precisely did you tell them?)

are irrelevant. They mean nothing.

Hopefully, you will see this response before the most likely event, which is that this whole discussion will be removed by Apple due to the nature of the discussion.

You have to do what I did when I was young; buy only what you can afford and then wait until you can afford to buy the more expensive option.

It doesn't matter how many different ways you find to ask the same question; you cannot put Apple Music onto an iPod Classic.

Technically, this is because the Classic simply isn't capable of using Apple Music. In addition to that, it is protected music; protected against copying in any form so that you can get to keep a copy once you stop paying the subscription. Attempts by you to get round this restriction are against Apple's Terms of Use (as has been explained), to which you agreed when you created your ID. In other words, you are in dangerous legal territory. If you don't understand what that means, get your parents to read this discussion (don't simply tell them your interpretation of it). As for whether you could be sued, it's not for anyone here to say.

i talked to apple support and showed the converter, the guy said that because it's old technology that doesn't support apple music even though it's made by apple, it would be perfectly fine to put the songs on the iPod unless you cancel the apple music subscription.

Have a think about what you've written there. Since you cannot put Apple Music onto a Classic, the Apple representative is correct in saying that you can put it onto an iPod (that is, a modern iPod Touch) for as long as you pay the subscription. Since the only way to put Apple Music onto a Classic would be to convert it to a format the Classic can use (which so far, your attempts have found impossible), you would then be breaking the contract by which you are bound, which prevents you from attempting to get around the restriction you face. Again, if you don't understand what this means, get your parents to read this discussion in its entirety.

I think it's time this discussion came to a close. I'm now asking myself if you're old enough to be here: read the same article, https://discussions.apple.com/terms section C.1 regarding minimum age.
