iPhone 13 Pro loses bluetooth connection to car 2-8 minutes after starting a phone call

I recently purchased a new iPhone 13 Pro (then exchanged for an iPhone 13 Pro Max) to replace my iPhone XR. Here is the info on the problem I am seeing for your developers:

Hardware: iPhone 13 Pro Max, running iOS 15.0.2

Car: 2016 Toyota Avalon

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Start Car
  2. Allow phone to connect with car via bluetooth.
  3. Start a phone call
  4. Connection between the car and phone fails anywhere from 2-8 minutes after the call starts.
    1. The phone call continues on the phone, but the car thinks the call has ended. After this point bluetooth functionality no longer works properly until I restart the car.

Other details:

- The phone has no issues playing bluetooth audio to the car. Issue only happens on phone calls.

- My old iPhone XR did not have this problem, but was not running iOS 15.

Steps I have taken to fix the problem:

  1. Stopped/started bluetooth service on iPhone
  2. Enabled then disabled Airplane mode on iPhone
  3. Re-paired the iPhone to the car after forgetting bluetooth settings on both devices.
  4. Restart iPhone
  5. Force restart iPhone
  6. Updated software on car
  7. Reset all settings on iPhone
  8. Disabled 5G (settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Settings -> Voice & Date = LTE)
  9. Exchanged my iPhone 13 Pro for an iPhone 13 Pro Max, still have the issue

The iPhone is unusable for calls in my car which is really frustrating. Hopefully someone out there has seen something like this and has a solution/workaround. Or maybe this will make it to the developers and they can try and fix the issue.

I don't believe it's your car. I too have a Toyota, Camry. I am having issues with the Bluetooth where it starts cutting out or sounds scrambled or like under water. It does it for 10-30 seconds then stops. If I switch to speaker or the phone it stops but switch back to Bluetooth it's still doing it until it just decides to stop. It does this on two different sets of AirPods, and my car. Borrowed my daughter's AirPods and it does the same thing. I have worked with 4 different Senior Advisors at Apple and a Level 2 technician at Verizon to no avail. The last Apple tech said if she sends it up to Engineering it's not for a resolution to the problem, it's just to let them know I'm having an issue. Verizon suggested I go with the 12 Pro as she isn't seeing nearly as many issues with that phone. Unfortunately it's no longer available. All I know is I have spent a lot off money on a 13 Pro 512 gb and it's a Bluetooth nightmare and I need the Bluetooth to work. So frustrated. If anybody has any ideas please advise

Yes I did, 15.3.1 Did not resolve my issue. I have now turned my watch off and we'll see if that makes a difference. It's very random, sometimes it doesn't do it for several days, other times it will do it multiple times a day and multiple times during the same phone call. Does not do it listening to music, just when on a phone call. Apple's latest answer is it's Environmental. They say we have ruled out everything else including software so it has to be interference of some sort like weather, the type of walls where I am, my location, mountains, etc. I told her I don't agree that it isn't Software because that's why they come out with updates, while I am running the latest update maybe they haven't found a fix for this yet. She didn't agree.....I don't think it's hardware because the phone has been replaced. I too have a 2nd generation watch but I don't want to go spend more money to upgrade the watch at this point. Anything but Apple's issue.

I have the same issue with iPhone 13 Pro and Audi A6 2009. I can’t use Google Maps via Bluetooth as device is disconnecting after 2 minutes. Updated to the latest version of iOS. Previously I had 6s, 8 and XS models - no issues, each model was working properly with my car.

Currently I’m waiting for replacement because of other issue - 13 Pro has came with dust on the camera lenses inside. Totally unacceptable, poor quality for big money.

I just upgraded from XR to 13 pro max and my issue is similar but slightly different. Once I make a Siri call in my car (2017 Infiniti) the car will not disconnect from the phone once the call is finished and does not allow me to make or receive another call. I’ve tried pushing the disconnect button on the steering wheel, hanging up on the phone itself, clicking the buttons on the side of the phone. The call disconnects on the phone but it is still engaged with the car Bluetooth and the only way I can get the call in progress screen to go away on my car is to turn my car off & restart it. And the entire cycle starts again as soon as I make or receive a call. I work from my car about 80% of the time. Very frustrating. Has anyone had this same situation and, if so, how did you fix it?

The issue is still there, doesn't matter if it's 15.3.1. It's acting different now. At the beggining of re-pairing the device, it works. But I find my phone discconnected from time to time in my Volvo XC60 or I get a call and can't hear anything just to notice the phone is disconnected (while driving which is really dangerous).

Update on the Bluetooth issues and iPhone 13 pro. I think I may have found the issue, for me at least for me. I have an Apple Watch Series 2. If I turn the watch off the phone doesn't cut in and out or become garbled for 20-30 seconds. As soon ask I turn the watch back on the problem happens, turn the watch off and no issues. There is nothing wrong with my watch and I have no intention of replacing it but it looks like that's the answer to the problem at this point. For all the aggravation and time spent one the phone with Apple senior advisors, and the fact that this is Apple's issue not mine, I think Apple should compensate me by giving me a new watch, or at least a deep discount on one

The latest update improved but did not fix the issue. Instead of getting cut off within a minute or two, now I can talk on Bluetooth in my 2016 Toyota Tundra for about 10 minutes before it cuts off - but it always cuts off after about 10 minutes.

Steps I have taken:

I have the latest IOS 15.3.1

I removed my iPhone from my Tundra and added it back as a new device

The only way to get my phone on Bluetooth again is to turn off my engine and restart it.

My iPhone Mini 13 now works just fine with my 2016 Toyota Avalon.

I was having the same problems as mentioned in the OP.

Anywhere from one minute to three minutes of phone air time, then dropped call.

Now I can talk as long as I please it appears. Over 30 minutes on a call one day last week.

I also upgraded to IOS 15.3.1....it must have done the fix.

I'm once again happy with my iPhone and 2016 Toyota Avalon now.

😁

I am having the same exact issue. I thought it was my AirPods as I can listen to music or watch videos with no problems at all through Bluetooth but every phonecall goes through what you experienced below through the AirPods. Today I used my car Bluetooth on a phone call for the first time since I got my 13 and after 2 minutes I had the same problem and had to take the call off Bluetooth.
