Macbook Pro 2021 14 inch - hard reset, stuck up

Hey all. I recently received this new Macbook Pro as a gift and when I tried to do hard factory reset, it gave me an error when installing Monterey OS “operation couldn’t be completed error 8”? And now I’m stuck at choose start up disk!! This is so frustrating, it’s a brand new laptop with 400+ GB space don’t know why it’s not installing.

Sure - here were my steps:

1) Held down power key > “Loading start up options”

2) Clicked “Options” and continued on

3) Loaded into macOS Recovery screen

4) Clicked top nav on “Recovery Assistant” > “Erase Mac..”

5) Clicked yes on erasing macbook

6) Set language to English, “Activate Mac” by connecting to WiFi

7) Got to 4 main options (Restore from time machine, safari, utility disk, etc) selected “Reinstall macOS to Monterey”

8) Said yes and continued on the installation

9) Stuck on 4-18 hours of installation…

10) Got an error before but now reinstalling again

What's a "hard factory reset?"

Why did you need to do that?

Is there a startup disk to choose? If not, use Disk Utility in Recovery to erase the drive as APFS (but, see below).

There have been problems fully erasing an Apple Silicon-based Mac. I don't know if that has been fixed with the second generation Macs. This is the article, but it says it doesn't apply to your Mac.

Hard factory reset as in deleting everything that was on this macbook. I stupidly installed with my old Apple ID so my 2013 work was on this, and when I signed out of it, all the files were still on it no matter what - even when I deleted it from trash. I just clicked on install a new copy of Monterey OS, not sure if that was the right choice :/
