Final Cut Pro not working

I have updated my 2019 MacBook Pro to macOS Monterey and when I try to open up Final Cut Pro, it does not load and provides me with a blank and the spinning wheel? Is this an operating software issue or is it my laptop?

Thanks

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.0

Try completely uninstalling cmm. You have to follow their instructions for doing it. It is NOT enough to drag it to the trash.

In addition, you also have Chrome - a well known enemy of video and professional applications.

Completely uninstall Chrome and its "keystone" daemons and agents - see https://chromeisbad.com for why and how.

Once you have done that, you will need to drag FCP to the trash, and download a fresh copy from the App Store.

You can actually just download older versions of Final Cut directly from the App Store, which I did. It didn’t work. It’s Final Cut under Monterey that’s the issue, including 10.5.4. I had to go back to a time machine backup of Big Sur to get a stable production environment. Usually these software issues are easier to deal with because you can just uninstall and reinstall an older version. When it’s the OS that needs to be downgraded, that’s a real pain and very time consuming. Which is why I’m so upset with Apple about this.

Hi inkwellspring,

I did everything in all the blogs and from apple's website and spent hours with an apple FCPX expert (free) and she was unwilling to recommend going back from Monterey to Big Sur. FCPX had been taking hours to open and do anything meaningful in a previously very stable library in High Sierra. We made the big mistake too of upgrading during an edit. We finally got three machines all back to Big Sur, and everything worked again. And that was a pain, because apple doesn't make it easy, but a good tech person did it for us. Jim

Oh, that's rough. Hopefully Apple comes out with a fix shortly but it's possible it could be several more weeks. No way for us users to know.

It might not be feasible if you've done a lot of work in the library but is it possible to export an XML from 10.6 of your current work and bring that into a library backup from before you updated to 10.6? (~/Movies/Final Cut Backups/) Both 10.5.4 and 10.6 can live in the Applications folder, just rename the older one to something like Final Cut Pro 10.5.4.app before moving it in there.

My libraries (that used to take seconds to load) now take between 15 and 30 minutes to load.

In a streamed console window (as per the suggestion in the replied to post), I got 230,000 errors/faults just while opening Final Cut and the library! No wonder it's slow.

I'm editing with a client next week and it's going to be embarrassing to have to say, hold on while my otherwise fast MacBook Pro 16" takes half an hour to load your project. I hope Apple updates either Final Cut or Monterey or both asap.

I've tried the usual stuff like resetting FC settings, reinstalling FC and so on. I even rolled back to 10.5.4 on Monterey and had the same issues. I've run SSD First Aid, rebooted in safe mode, removed CurrentVersion.flexolibrary to rebuild the library database (or whatever it does), removed individual events manually from the bundle and replaced, removed render files manually, removed all plugins from the Movies - Motion Templates folder, run an Etre Check report (nothing major), and nothing helps.

Once the library or event loads, editing is more or less normal, although it is a bit slower than before.

The only thing that didn't have a problem was an older MBP 13 with Big Sur 11.5.2 on it. This was absolutely fine with the same libraries using both FC 10.6 and 10.5.4.

I think this is a Monterey problem. Or at least a Final Cut with Monterey problem, and not necessary a Final Cut v 10.6.
