Bluetooth pairing between iPhone and Mac Mini M1 "not supported"

Hi. I'm unable to connect my iPhone (iOS 15.1) to my Mac Mini M1 (MacOS 12.0.1). The initial pairing seems to work as the code verification pops up on both the iPhone and the Mac, however it never actually connects and I get the following message:

Connection Unsuccessful

"Name of my device" is not supported.

Forget Device (button)

Has anyone run into same issue?

I had the similar problem with iPhone 13 promax and seven year old iMac and it never said it was pairing it said unsupported but all of the functions seem to work once both have been signed into iCloud. AirDrop iMessages the phone calls on either one everything actually seems like it’s working fine but it always says not connected did the pairing was unsuccessful and yet it gives the pairing number and I spent three days with Apple support and they could not understand it either

"Modern Macs and iPhones cannot be PAIRED via Bluetooth, and there is NO NEED"

That is a BUG. It should not be dismissed as a "feature."

Tethering via Bluetooth requires pairing. I have had occasion to require this (I won't bore you with why WiFi tethering, which does work, was not a suitable workaround).

It is more than annoying the way Apple keeps removing important functionality without thought for the consequences.

Debug is NOT an option once you have upgraded to Monterey. what I read tells me I have to have my iPad and my iPhone linked to the mac on bluetooth if I want to use HANDOVER or MESSAGES between the three devices. Exactly like you I get these devices to pair with a code but then they show as DISCONNECTED and when you click on them they advise the mac mini is not supported. The iPad and the iPhone are brand new, the Mac Mini is 2020 model with M1 chip - and they cant bluetooth together ! a bit crappy !

This has nothing at all to do with iCloud, so please stop. It is strictly about BT. In fact the two are not even synonymous. Whoever is talking about iCloud is not understanding the issue. The issue is not about syncing. The issue is that the Mac (your flavor) will not pair/join/connect with your phone.

I use my phone paired with my Mac so I can make and receive calls using my Mac while at my desk and phone nearby.. CONNECTED WITH BLUETOOTH!!!!!

So this is the issue.. my phone will not connect anymore.. It worked just fine with Big Sur.

Follow-up that might be useful info:

1) It's not just my M1 Mini. I have a 2020 (Intel) MB Air, and it too cannot connect to my iPhone via Bluetooth. Exactly the same situation, with both Macs.

2) This is a recent problem. In the past, I was able to move photos from this iPhone to both Macs via AirDrop. Now I cannot pair them at all.

There's some sort of very basic bug in the recent versions of the operating system(s).

Same issue for me as well since upgrading to iOS 15.4 and Monterey 12.3. Have two iPhones, a 6s and a new SE (3rd gen) both on iOS 15.4. All devices can see each other, but fail to pair. Just tried to connect a 2nd gen SE to the 3rd gen SE and note they will not pair with each other either, so looks like it might be a an issue with iOS 15.4. The Mini has no trouble pairing with keyboard or headset since the upgrade.

Will head over to iPhone community to see what's being discussed there about this issue.
