Adding Unreleased Music to Apple Music

So I have lots of local files of albums that are free to the public and can be downloaded from The United States Marine Band website and I also have albums that were never released in the U.S. that have been in my music library on my Mac for years.

I currently have a subscription for Apple Music and I can’t seem to add these tracks onto my phone unless I turn off the sync feature on the Music app. But if I turn off the sync feature I can’t download offline versions of tracks from Apple Music.

This is super annoying as I’d like to have all my music at hand in one place, especially if I’m traveling and I can’t always rely on my signal coverage to stream music. Is there a way around this? I heard Spotify literally has a local files feature and I’m seriously contemplating making the switch.

iPhone XR, iOS 15

This should work assuming you are using SYNC LIBRARY on the Mac and iPhone.

If you add a song you downloaded from the Internet, for example, on your Mac and it is not a song that is part of Apple Music, the Music app on the Mac will add it to your music library and upload it to the cloud. At that point, your phone will see it and it will show up in your music library on your phone but it will be up to you to download it to your phone if you do not want to stream the song from the cloud.

Are you looking for an "automatic download" feature on your iPhone? That is a thing but it is turned off by default (I think.)

I have plenty of songs that have been "uploaded" that I see on both my Mac and my iPhone. So it works, but it is unclear why it is not working for you unless I am not understanding your use case.
