USB-C fails to work on Asus 4K monitor with Mac Mini M1

This was raised last year but I haven't seen it recently.

Had to use HDMI instead which is a big loss as the Asus acts as a hub. It started on Big Sur and has continued on Monterey. Occasionally I get a message that "USB accessories are disabled, unplug the accessory using too much power to re-enable USB devices. There aren't any USB devices drawing power.

The only ones are powered, including the monitor.

Can some kind person tell me how to fix this?

Cheers

This worked for me, sort-of. I've been using USB-C video and the hub function together with my HP ENVY 34 display with no problem since I bought the M1 Mini but it's completely broken in Monterey - USB-C video works, but the Mac sees no peripherals in the monitor (no IR camera, no HD camera, no audio, nothing plugged into the USB ports). Now I have to have an old-school USB-A cable AND an HDMI cable so that both monitor and cameras work again. I can't believe this was broken in the first DP of Monterey and it's still broken in the release.

That’s not old school, it’s good sense. Single cable do-it-all is oversold, it’s actually a single point of failure as many have found out. It’s also under-engineered thanks to monitor manufacturers who can’t yet tell the different between a power-hungry laptop and a power-rebuffing mini. Until they do, enjoy…you’re losing nothing and gaining everything.
