connecting to hifi system

is there a way to connect audio on my apple macbook pro via wifi to my hifidelity system? I did use in the old days airport and airport express. Is apple TV functional in that way? - could I send the appropriate signal, and that signal then exported from apple TV via ethernet for example, and converted to a signal recognized by my hifidelity amplifier?

Many Thanks,

Ray

The advised way is to connect the audio system through HDMI (via the TV), if it has that connection. Else connect the audio system through optical audio (via the TV).

Some users still use AirPort (Express), so it should be possible to make your audio system an AirPlay speaker system that way. AirPlay speakers are temporary assigned speakers, so you’ll have to select for them each use.
