Charging pattern of MacBook Pro M1 13 inches [2020 model - A2338] to keep up good battery health

This question is all about MacBook Pro M1 13 inches [2020 model - A2338]

  1. Can I keep the Mac plugged in while using it for a long time/ while doing some intensive tasks / while doing the day-to-day work, I mean the full day?
  2. Would rapid discharging of the battery reduce the battery life? Say, I am using my Mac for day-to-day work, and my charging pattern is, I will charge it until 95% to 100%, unplug it and use it until it drains to 20%, and charge it again till 100%.
  3. Only sometimes, the charging status icon is showing the Power Adapter symbol (Plug icon) although it's showing the Power source is from Power Adapter when the battery is 100%.
  4. Can I keep the charger plugged in, with the 100% battery percentage, for a longer duration, say I am on my day-to-day work, and I am starting the work in the morning with 80% battery till night 9 PM or more?

Please provide some advice to keep up the battery health in the long run.

Hi kavin-raju-s,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help with your MacBook Air battery. It sounds like you are concerned with charging habits.

Please understand, your battery is considered a consumable and will eventually require service.

Have a look at this page: Get help with your Mac notebook battery and this page: Maximizing Battery Life and Lifespan.

Leaving it plugged in when using is normal and won't hurt your Mac.

Knowing your cycle count and how it is determined is also helpful: Determine battery cycle count for Mac notebooks.

"For example, you could use half of your notebook's charge in one day, and then recharge it fully. If you did the same thing the next day, it would count as one charge cycle, not two. In this example, it might take several days to complete a cycle."

Have a fantastic day!
