A while ago Apple Support showed me how to put a button onscreen to take a screen shot on my iPad. Is there a way to put a button onscreen to start/sopt a screen recording? Can't find anything in Settings about it.

Perhaps the best way is to use the Control Centre. If not already added, you can simply add the Screen Recording button to the visible Control Control Centre buttons.
