Why can’t my iPhone 6 get updates past 12.5.5?
The 6 series and prior versions do not have sufficient RAM to run iOS 13 or later and you cannot add RAM. You can easily confirm the amount of RAM your 6 has compared to a 6s (it is doubled) with verified sources and if you have any knowledgable friends they can assure you that an operating system will require a certain amount of RAM. There is no conspiracy here here and your phone will work just fine until your favorite app developers tell you they will not longer support iOS 12.

I'm sure if there is a major concern for security and privacy, that Apple would consider making an iOS 12.5.6 update. Why not? They added 12.5.5, to go past 12.5.4.
It does not have the hardware to run the newer iOS versions.
