How to get and install iOS Big-Sur ?

Hello,

I needed to clean my disk and I installed my existing operating system which is Mojave.

I have tried to find installation package for Big-Sur because that is latest iOS which I could install to my MacBookPro. It suggest me to install Monterrey but I cannot install that as I have other softwares in use which doesn't work with Monterrey.

How and from where I can get the Big-Sur installer ? What to do ?

Found this page and I can download Catalina and Mojave. BigSur is definitely taken away from everywhere. Reason ofcourse for that is unknown.

BigSur from App Store (this link doesn't work but everything in apple support refers to this)

https://apps.apple.com/fi/app/macos-big-sur/id1526878132?mt=12

Catalina from app store so this method uses the macOS update procedure

https://apps.apple.com/fi/app/macos-catalina/id1466841314?mt=12

Mojave from app store so this method uses the macOS update procedure

https://apps.apple.com/fi/app/macos-mojave/id1398502828?mt=12

if you want to have DMG packages then go to this download page

https://support.apple.com/downloads/macos

type to search field "10.14" for Mojave and "10.15" for Catalina. If you use 11.6 or 11.5 or 11.4 ... which should refer to BigSur it cannot find anything. Don't use macOS operating system name as search cannot find anything so use only the version number if you want to find something.

If there is someone from Apple support following this discussion please could you open this BigSur mystery for us ? For me the reason not to go for Monterey is that my application which I use daily are not supported by Monterey so definitely I need some other macOS that the lates Monterey. Hardware is ok for Monterey. For Apple people there is screen cap about the error which I face when trying to download BigSur from App Store.

There is also screen cap for Barney about your terminal command and my error :) Thanks for your help but above links were helpful to find something other macOS than Monterey :)

Thanks Barney.

You were correct so it's not possible to upgrade directly from Mojave to BigSur. I first upgraded to Catalina and after that I did not have any problems downloading BigSur from App Store. Now BigSur is installed and learning new things about it.

Just remember to start download process from here

Thanks for helping me out :) I hope that our discussion thread will help others which may be in same situation ;)

verify you are using the Safari browser to download/initiate the macOS links.

The older macOS installer backups on this server:

Edit: ah, bet that's because I'm still on Mojave and the only choice is to use the Monterey installer. Hmmm.

No, that's not it. The link to Big Sur should take you to that page on the App Store.

When you click on Get, it should open Software Update to download Big Sur. As it opens Software Update, you might see it has an upgrade to Monterey. Just wait.

Sorry, don't work parameters are wrong. I tried -d and several different options but I should know the exact filename or update name and unfortunately that I don't know :(

You must be running Catalina or later for the full installer options. I failed to re-read your original post before suggesting.

Big Sur is available as I just downloaded it. No idea why you cannot.

If you can download Catalina, maybe try that first.
