Increased fan noise since updating to MacOs Monterey.

I have had the same problem of excessive fan noise since installing Monterey with my 2020 MacBook Air. I sought help with Apple through chat then worked with an online tech who could not resolve the issue. They all did not recommend to roll back to Big Sur. They booked me an appointment with the Apple Store which wiped my computer and reinstalled Monterey. I pulled in only current files from my time machine and still the fan would go on once it went to sleep. One thing the Apple store tech told me is that Chrome can make a computer run hot. I reinstalled Chrome but am making Safari my main browser-no more fan noise (so far).

The fan and over heating issue is solved with the latest update version 12.1 (21C52).

I just downgraded to Big Sur, and the MacBook is happy again. I would note, however, that it appears to get just as hot as with Monterey, only without the excessive fans. It may be that Apple changed the fan profile for Monterey, trying to get the computer to run cooler. But whatever the reason for this, the fan noise was unacceptable.

I've done some troubleshooting, and found that firefox seems to be my culprit. I can stream 4k video in safari no problems, but watching the exact same video on Firefox causes much more heat, and the fans to kick up. As a test, I actually watched an entire 4k video in firefox, and the fans were full blast. I then loaded the same video into Safari, and watched it, and the fans eventually slowed down, even though I was still watching the same video. Not sure who to blame, but since it worked fine in O/S Big Sur, I'm gonna point the finger at apple.

Suggest downloading the Application Etrecheck directly from a well Respected ASC Contributor.

Run the application with Full Disc Access ( Security & Privacy - Full Disc Access ).

It will take a Snap Shot -  both the hardware and software.

 The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information. 

Post back the Full Report - copy and paste - using the Additional Text Icon ( 3rd Icon to last )

We can have a look at the report for possible issues and may have possible suggestions to resolve the issues.

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS, alter, modify, remove or delete or attempt to do so is an invitation for disaster and may require a Reinstallation of the OS.

This includes AntiVirus, Disk Cleaners, Disk Optimizes, UnInstaller etc.

The The Built in Security  is all that is required.

I have had the exact same issue since the minute I upgraded. I am always restarting, closing stuff down, the latest "fix" of 12.2.1 and still not working properly or or maybe it's overworking! I just checked the activity monitor and bluetooth was taking 258% of cpu....so I shut the bluetooth off and the fans instantly spooled down and quit. Not sure what is up. I do need the bluetooth to work! At the same time I do not want to burn this thing down. Mid 2015 MBP 15".

In addition to the above, use Activity Monitor to see if any app or process is possibly using too many resources and causing this to happen: View CPU activity in Activity Monitor on Mac

I agree with the feedback that if you turn off the bluetooth initially it settles the fans down odd.

Try resetting the SMC using the method appropriate for your computer.

I've also experienced increased fan noise since updating to Monterey. Running Teams, Pulse Secure, and Microsoft Remote Desktop as I have done prior to upgrading generate increased fan noise. Even now while typing this message within Chrome the fan noise got even louder. My plan is to restore from a backup and roll back to Big Sur.

FYI: I'm running a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15 inch, Mid 2015), purchased in 2017.

I have the same issue, and after the fans kick up, they stay full blast. I was watching a youtube video 5 minutes ago, and the fans are still full blast as I write this, and don't slow down. The computer is also getting hot, and it's killing the battery life. I want to downgrade!

I probably should have been more clear, apologies. The fans are not the problem, they're just doing their job. The Macbook Air is getting unusually hot for the task at hand, since upgrading to Monterey. Watching a youtube video after a few minutes now causes so much heat the fans are forced to run hard. This didn't seem to be the case before. I used this computer for a year, and never heard the fans kick up, except when editing in Final Cut. The fans also run for a long time after you quit out of the video. This computer is now so loud, I don't really want to use it. I'm not going to jump through a bunch of hoops to try and fix this. I don't have time, I'll likely wipe the drive, and install Big Sur again.

Same here… as soon as I Start my macbook air 2020 after the upgrade the fans are going full blast, doesn't matter if any app is on or not. Seems like the OS Monterey is built for the M1 processors and too heavy for the T2. Going to downgrade if I don't find any real solution in the next days.

Obviously there an issue with the monterey update as i face the same issue from the second i updated this version. No issue related to the computer. I m thinking about downgrading as this Monterey seems to start with issues.
