Unable to download Xcode even if I have enough Storage

Hi all I wanted to download Xcode today and in the apple store it showed it required 12GB but when I went to download it I have 35GB which is enough. Any help?

You mean an external drive? I'm not sure. In theory, any app can run from an external drive. But Xcode is special in many ways.


Still, I'm not sure what the big deal here is. Xcode is a professional tool. It is going to take a very long time just to expand the archive on an external drive. When the new MacBook Pros came out the other day, one of the first benchmarks people ran on it was to see how quickly the new, super-fast SSD can extract the Xcode archive.


Do you have a computer that can run Xcode reasonably? Is it 2017 or newer with an internal SSD and 16 GB RAM? If so, make the storage available. You need 100 GB. Otherwise, buy a new computer.
