Songs View Jumping to Random Spots After Action

Since the update to Monterey I've been experiencing some weird behavior when adding songs to a playlist (or editing info of a song/album). It seems as soon as Apple Music is done making changes, it just randomly decides to jump to a different spot in my current view.

Example: In the Library - Songs view, I went to an album by the artist "Dave". I selected the 12 songs from the album, two-finger click, Add to Last Playlist, and the Songs view jumps down to Jeezy. Do the same thing for a Turnstile album and it jumps down to Various Artists.

All of my playlists are in the "Songs" view (because the default Playlist view is absolutely worthless), so I cannot say whether this happens in other views.

Another, slightly less annoying bug, is that when using the keyboard to jump to the artist you want (in the example above typing "Dave") the first matching song is highlighted at the bottom of the view, instead of the top as it's been since... forever.

Am I the only experiencing/annoyed by these two bugs?

After YEARS of having this issue, Apple Help was finally able to think of a creative solution (work-around).

Background: The issue seems to be related to the Scroll Bar itself and how it receives inputs.

The fix that worked for me: Go to System Preferences > General > "Click on the scroll bar to": 'Jump to the spot that's clicked'

If you select that option, it seems to stop happening. If this works for you then you're probably like me thinking "I can't believe it was that simple and I've been suffering for so long."

Safe mode refers only to running the computer system software. You shut down and hold the on button until the computer comes up in safe mode and then you run the music software. Bottom line is that its a widespread problem, my new Mac Studio the first time running the program had the problem as many others have testified. The only helpful workaround so far that I heard was given above by Nooby5au to tap the up arrow key.

After being on the phone with Apple support, I was told to either re-install the OS with the hope that any missing/corrupt files for the music app correct the issue, or wait until the next update for the OS. Mind you, the tech didn't know if the issue would be addressed in that update as it is very "unique".

Looks like we will have to deal with it for a while.

It’s not just an M1 issue, there are a bunch of examples in this thread from all different kinds of chips. I have intel 2019 16” MBP.

When I called in after posting after the 12.4 update I was told the senior engineers were aware of this problem and were done pretty much with the data collection part of this bug and are now working to fix it.

At this point I am just holding out hope it’s fixed with whatever new version they reveal at WWDC and release in September.

I had the same problem on my 2015 Macbook Air 13''.

I just updated to 2020 MBA M1 and guess what the problem happens again.

Something i suspect of is Chrome. The jumping thing happens when my chrome is open and im connected to the internet.

However if i disconnect from the internet and shutdown Chrome all is well.

Anyone is willing to test this if that is the case with them as well?

Im not sure if this is just by chance or happens to other people as well

For me, having a music library of about 19 thousand songs, this is incredibly frustrating. I'll be in the middle of a song on my laptop (via headphones) and all over a sudden it has jumped to a completely random spot in my list of songs. Not to mention anytime I want to do any kind of edit to the MP3 file, be it new cover art, giving it a different genre, renaming the album, etc. it jumps to either the very top of my list or to the bottom after I make the change it doesn't stay on the song I am listening to or making changes to. SO...I made a playlist called "MY MUSIC" and put EVERY SONG in my iTunes in it. If nothing else, while using this list (my songs are grouped by artist, not song title) I can listen to an album and the list doesn't move around on its own. Like most here, this began when I downloaded Monterrey IOS and no one at Apple Tech has any suggestions on how to make it stop.

I have been trying to change start and stop times to 0. I have been doing this song by song and the same jumping happened after closing the window after making changes. I decided to make a smartlist that grabbed about 100 songs at a time so that at least as I got to the bottom the jump would get progressive closer to where I was. Once I did this if I made the changes in the new smartlist it didn't jump at all after making changes.
