I have a macbook pro retina, 15" mid 2015. I have a flush mounted sd card caddy that has all my media and never comes out. After installing the Monterey update 12.0.1 the machine gives me an error message after waking from sleep, about the sd card not being ejected properly. I have never needed to eject this card in the past before sleeping. What's up?

How is the card formatted?
Try the following: boot into Safe Mode according to Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.
NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;
• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)
• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
• Disables user-installed fonts
• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files
I've got the issue again just right now. Even with "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" option turned off. But this situation starts to appear much less often. I'm stuck now.
Let’s hope that Apple will fix this issue on their next update.

Tried to reset SMC yesterday. No issue since. Will tell the result in a couple of days.
As long as you aren't actively working with the card, and it has been a while since you wrote to it, it should be fine.
Besides, you should periodically reformat the card in the camera, anyway.
Same issue on my MacBook Pro 13" Early 2015. SMC reset did not help. Every MacOS update is bringing more and more problems with my MacBook...

Update to Monterey 12.1 did not solve the issue. I had the message again this morning after waking up the computer.
Have the same issue with SD card on my 2020 iMac. I have 12.1 and the problem still happens every time the computer wakes up. The issue never happened prior to updating to Monterey.
Apple doesn’t seems to care anymore. Someone need to do something against Apple.
No you are not, the issue here is that the card is recognized, but ejected when the computer goes to sleep.
