The Apple tech told me that this update went out to millions of computers and they're all fine--It's just ME with the lemon. The Apple Configurator trick didn't work, he took it all apart, examined it. He couldn't find anything wrong so his only solution was paying $572 to replace the motherboard.
Such a letdown on Apple's part. I was good for a new MacBook in a couple of years. I've bought all the phones, a few tablets, a couple of watches. But this experience with the MacBook has really soured my opinion of Apple.
I really can't remember another time I had a piece of fairly expensive tech, not even two years old, die on me in such a way. If I spilled water, dropped it down the stairs, I'd have just myself to blame. But I did what I thought was sensible given security concerns these days by updating the OS. Seems simple enough. Boy was I wrong.
And it's not like this is for casual web surfing. I rely on this computer for my work, every single day. Being told I gotta pay hundreds just to fix their own letdown is a real kick in the you know where.
Just ordered a Lenovo. It's not sexy, but I used those pre-MacBook and they never let me down quite like this. Plan on tossing the MacBook into a fire pit in a few weeks. I'll never give Apple money for a computer again.
