Battery draining in macOS Monterey - M1 MacBook Air

Of course they will fix it but it won’t be an overnight fix. It’s frustrating but the likes of Dropbox have not optimised for M1 and have backtracked on not supporting ARM but it will be later in 2022 before we see the version. Apple can only fix Monterey issues and are not responsible for 3rd party compatibility.

No, my battery is empty very quickly on MacBook Air M1 under 12.1 (21C52).

There is absolutely no solution at this time for that except calling Apple support and tell them about what is happening. 

They will probably make a distance test from your machine.

Have the same issue with my M1 MBA running 12.1. Battery life has been atrocious with a loss of around 1% per minute at the worst of times. Even when doing nothing but looking at a page of text on Reddit in Safari with no other tabs or programs running.

In the process of downgrading to Big Sur as I type this. It is clear Monterey was not made with the MBA in mind.

I've bought my mac less then a month ago, and upgraded immeadiately.

I also noticed I'm getting nowhere close to the advertised 20 hours.

It's more like 10 hours, even under very light workload, good to see it's Montery and not the machine.

Hi. I have the same issue with my M1 MacBook Air. I tried turning it off but even when is off, the power stills drains. The battery use history shows no rest, not even when is in sleep mode. When I turned it off, there’s no data about battery use, but I imagine somehow the battery drains.

I took a look into Activity Monitor and kerneltask, windows server, mds use a high percentage of energy and cpu. I don’t know what else to do.

I have the 12.1 update.

Do you keep having the issue even when the Mac is off?

I've got an M1 13" MBP. I'm getting about 8 hours of screen-on usage, which generally comprises email, web browsing inc some YouTube, plus some WP and a bit of graphics work. There is no noticeable consumption when the device is asleep.

This is nothing like the battery life I got with Big Sur, where I never got even close to running the battery down during a full day of work.

When I can find the time and inclination to go though the painful process of putting the laptop back to Big Sur, I will.

I did fresh install of Monterey and it helped. But the battery life is still noticeably less good than it was on Big Sur. So, I'm still thinking I'll go back to Big Sur when I can be bothered setting up my laptop from scratch again.

I was facing the same issue on my 13 inch MacBook Pro M1, since the macOS Monterey update. Hoping apple to release the battery fix update soon.

I am having the same issue with my MacBook Pro after downloading the macOS Monterey. I regret that I've updated the software. Hoping that Apple will find a solution for this bug ASAP.

Yes. No problems with my MacBook Air battery until I upgraded to Monterey. Now, I only get half the life I used to. Less, probably.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020), the same issue. Battery life was 2 days, after upgrade to the Monterey can drain the battery during 3-5 hours!

I went back to Big Sur and am totally happy that I did.

Apparently Dropbox are testing an M1 optioned version of Dropbox, but this will not be available till next year. I've now moved away from them completely as its not the first time I've had issues.

I would just reinstall Big Sur.
