Airplay/screen mirroring problems

I have an iPhone XR and an iPad Pro 2nd gen and I can’t seem to get airplay working with my AppleTV 3rd gen. I have tried all the fixes and I am on the network with all devices what could be going on? Does the AppleTV 3rd generation still work with airplay

If you still have this problem, this is what fixed it for me. Check if your Apple TV has failed the activation: go to Settings, General, About. At the bottom you should see Activation Failed, this is a new known bug. If this is the case, then this is why AirPlay is not working for you and here's how to fix it with a Mac or a PC:

If you have a Mac:

  • Download Apple Configurator 2 for free from the App Store (it's an official Apple app)
  • Connect the Apple TV to power and wait for the led to stop blinking (full boot)
  • Connect the Apple TV to the Mac with a standard Micro USB cable
  • Open Apple Configurator 2 app and
  • Wait for the Apple TV to show and double-click on it
  • Choose Profile on the left
  • Click on Activate and wait for the process to finish
  • Unplug the Micro USB cable and plug the Apple TV to the TV with an HDMI cable
  • Check again on Settings, General, About: the Activation row shouldn't be there anymore
  • Try AirPlay again, it should work now

If you have a PC with Windows:

  • Download and install the "3uTools" free software
  • Connect the Apple TV to power and wait for the led to stop blinking (full boot)
  • Connect the Apple TV to the Mac with a standard Micro USB cable
  • Open 3uTools software
  • Wait for the Apple TV to show
  • Click More
  • Click Batch activation
  • Click All and Start and wait for the process to finish
  • Unplug the Micro USB cable and plug the Apple TV to the TV with an HDMI cable
  • Check again on Settings, General, About: the Activation row shouldn't be there anymore
  • Try AirPlay again, it should work now

Notice: I did the procedure through Configurator 2 using a MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2015) using macOS Monterey Version 12.2 Beta (21D5025f) and it was fixed.

some routers keep 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz and wired ethernet as separate networks

so if the remote app also does not work then maybe you need to bridge the networks in your routers configuration

of cause disconnecting the router for 30sec along with the appletv and letting them start up again often resolves issues with communication

Thanks… So the problem is in the security of iOS 15 and above uses WPA3 compared to the older WPA2. When you make a hotspot on an iPhone, do not connect your Apple TV 3gen to it, because Apple TV 3gen cannot work with WPA3 !!! And in the phone settings it is not possible to switch to WPA2 security !!! I hope it fixes in the next update. Oh God, let me fix that problem as soon as possible…

Donno, maybe your router don’t have 2.4ghz 5ghz or wired Ethernet bridged an the update made one of the devices choose the other network

or some reported issues with some mesh networks where each device connect to another mesh unit

or maybe some corrupt setting in router or ios device which can only be resolved by a factory settings reset

testing with friends and or relatives devices on your network and or testing your iOS device on another network would divide and conquer in terms of where the culprit lies

I've been having similar issues for years now. I have had 2 different LG TVs with airplay 2, and the screen mirroring has been the most inconsistent service in all my Apple products (both iphone and ipads). It does seems to be related to the router thou, as soon as I reset it, I get good results for a day ir so. I have been able to mirror my screen only in the 2.4 GHz channel unfortunately, which is choppy when trying to cast videos or having video chats, as the channel broadband is too narrow for so much data. While in the 5 GHz channel has been impossible to mirror my screen so far, thou some apps that use airplay 2 have been working consistently so long I reset the router. I wish Apple would spend more time fixing this issue which is reported in so many sites, or at least give us guides in how to set up the router or tell us to buy the ones who are gonna work better with airplay 2.

I Have a same problem:

Hello Apple, I use your product Apple TV (A1469) SW 7.8 (8158) with iphone 11 Pro (iOS15.1).

Both devices are connected to the same internet network. (I tried two home fully functional networks). In none of the cases did the connection via Airplay or Screen Mirroring work as before. I think it's an update to iOS 15 and above. The problem persists please fix it I can't even play music from my mobile through Apple TV. It's frustrating. I also tried to create a Wifi Hotspot from a classic LTE connection and connect to the Hospot network on Apple TV and play music on Apple TV from iPhone. It doesn't work it reports me an error after trying to connect Error (-100). This option worked great until iOS 15. It's frustrating. Thank you

Now I look at the router settings and I have set WPA2 AES SECURITY. The network runs at 2.4Ghz .I have the latest FW on the router. Both devices (Apple TV and Iphone) are connected to this network. On Apple TV turned on Airplay and Home Sharing and Bluetooth everything you can…. Still does not work mirroring or playing music from the iPhone. So where can be the mistake? It started after upgrading to iOS 15 I don't know where else to look for the problem.
