Set up shortcut to open control centre

You could turn on Full Keyboard Access in Accessibility System Preferences, Keyboard along with the command to activate the Status Menu in Keyboard System Preferences, Shortcuts, Keyboard.

I find the Full Keyboard Access obtrusive, though.

And, no, none of us here can add anything to the OS as we don't work for Apple and have no contact with their software engineers.
