Compass not working after update to iOS 15 on iPhone 12 Pro Max
Hi,
After updating my iPhone 12 Pro Max to iOS 15 the compass app is not working as expected. I use the compass almost every night as I do astrophotography and use it to get an initial orientation to point my gear north, so I know where north is from my location.
After the update the phone can be physically pointing north, but the app displays the compass pointing in another direction. It is almost impossible to get it to point north correctly.
I have tried deleting the app and installing it again and that did not fix the problem. When I reinstalled, it did not ask for calibration, which I found odd.
Just literally five minutes ago, I downloaded a third party compass app and to my surprise when I put the phone to point north physically the new app would drift constantly and would not find north on the display. So this makes me think something is wrong with the sensors after the upgrade.
I also have an Android phone and pointed towards north, put my iPhone right next to it and the iPhone says it is pointing 300 degrees NW. And this is not due to both phones being close to each other. This is what happens to the iPhone every single night. I am attaching a picture of this to show what I see, both with the regular compass app and with the one I just downloaded.
The only way I have found to work around this is to turn the phone completely off, and after I turn it on again, I can sometimes get the compass to point correctly in the north direction for a couple of seconds and then it goes crazy again.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Any help is appreciated
