New media layers don't insert at current frame

Is there a secondary preference that needs to be selected to get new layers (still photos specifically) to insert at the current frame. I have it selected in the Project preferences but new images still insert at the beginning. (BTW I tried using "Custom Duration" and that didn't make a difference)

Tricks or Tips?

I had to go check it.

Here is what is happening for me: it is always working correctly, EXCEPT when using Import.

Dragging from the library, or dragging directly from the Finder respects the playhead position. This works either with dragging to the layers list or to the canvas.

Pressing Command-I puts the new layer at the start of the timeline.

This should work, regardless of what you put in a layer.

How exactly are you adding the photos to your timeline?

When the application does not behave, usually the first thing to do is to delete its preferences.

To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting Motion and click Delete Preferences.

Then set them the way you want, and see if they stick.

Hi Luis,

I thought the same thing even though it would be a pain to set-up my prefs again. Here's what I tried:

-- Deleted Preferences on Open

-- Changed Prefs for Still Images & Layers to… Custom Duration (10 sec) and Create Layers at Current Frame. Closed the app.

-- Opened my Motion project and tried again. No luck. It inserts at the beginning of the timeline/

-- Closed my project, Closed the app. Opened again and created a new Project. Same Behavior.

To answer your question I use both the macro (Command-I) or the Add Media button to add media. I'm not a power user but have 10 years of experience using Motion.

Do you have the most recent version (v.5.6) and confirm it works for you?

Motion v.5.6

MacOS 12.0.1
