Hi annabel271,

It depends on where you got the app from:

  • If you got the app from the Mac App Store, open the Launchpad app, then click and hold on the app you want to delete. Then, click (X) to delete it.

  • If you got the app from the app developer's website, unfortunately there might not be an easy way to completely delete the app. Check if the app has an uninstall option inside. If it does, use that option. Otherwise, check the developer's documentation for how to uninstall the app.

There is a common myth that you can delete an app just by moving it from the Applications folder, and into the Trash (and then emptying the Trash). In reality, that doesn't always delete the app in its entirety, especially for apps that aren't in the Mac App Store.

Most apps install additional support files (and in some cases, background services) in hidden system locations. Moving an app to the Trash doesn't delete these support files, and they still persist. However, if the app developer provided an uninstaller, that uninstaller should fully remove all of the additional support files and background services as well.

Also, it should be noted that in macOS Big Sur and later, it is not possible to delete any preinstalled apps, except for the list below:

  • Pages
  • Numbers
  • Keynote
  • GarageBand
  • iMovie
  • Logic Pro
  • Final Cut Pro
  • MainStage
  • Compressor
  • Motion

Hope this helps!
