App stuck installing and cannot cancel installation

I have literally tried tons of methods to fix this bug. It started happening yesterday when I was installing Xcode and then CLOSED my MacBook overnight. Apparently, this actually, to me, permanently bricks the installation of the app. Basically meaning that it won't install and will never install. I cannot even cancel it!

Has been stuck on this for the past 5 hours.

How is it not finished!?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.0

Hi Renewings,


We understand that an app download is stuck and not making further progress. We're happy to offer some guidance.


Have you already restarted the computer since the download stopped making progress? If not, we'd recommend trying that first as that may get the download to restart.


Shut down or restart your Mac


You can also try signing out of the App Store if you're unable to cancel the download. Signing out should automatically cancel the download. To sign out just open the App Store, then select Store up in the menu bar and select Sign Out at the bottom of the options list. Once you've signed out, check to see that the download has cancelled then sign back in and start the download again.


If you're still unable to cancel the download or get it to complete, we'd recommend contacting Apple for assistance: Get Support
