iOS 15.2 fixed the issue on my 12 Pro Max. I use a USB to lightning cable and it stopped streaming after 15.1 and nothing, not even iTunes on my PC, would recognize my phone. Just updated to 15.2 a little bit ago, tried it and my car recognizes it now.

I had the same problem on my Honda Accord. After updating iOS, I connected the phone to the usb and it says ‘no song’. I had this problem once before too and it was fixed by downloading a song from iTunes in my phone. After the most recent update, I had the same issue even with the downloaded song. I fixed this issue by going to Music and clicking on Sync Library. As soon as I did that the downloaded song on my phone showed up again and now I can play songs connecting to the usb. Give it a try. Hope it works for all

you need to have at least one song in your iPhone library

Hi, Haley!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. We see that you are experiencing a problem listening to music from your iPhone while in your car, though it will still charge. We're happy to help!

Based on what you've described, we recommend following the steps under the "Connect using USB playback" section of How to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your car - Apple Support, which you can find below:

"Connect using USB playback

  1. Restart your device and your car.
  2. Make sure that your device is unlocked and on the Home screen.
  3. If possible, try to connect using another cable or USB port. Check the manual that came with your car to learn how to connect an Apple device.
  4. Check your charging port for any debris or damage. Make sure that your charging cable is properly inserted into the port.
  5. Update your device.
  6. Make sure that your stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.
  7. Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support."

Best!

Can comfirm it is the update, 2012 Cruze (iPhone X 15.1)here and I have the same issue. My wife is still on 15.0.0 and it connects just fine. Riding in silence isn't fun. The only temoprary solution for us cruze owners (and maybe applicable chevy owners with this issue) is the adapater (aux to lightning that's usually used for headphones) and plug that into our phones via the Aux Port. Unfortunately this way won't charge your phone at the same time...Hopefully an update will hotfix this issue.

I have a 2011 Cadillac SRX with the same issue. I talked to Apple Support twice, including a next level support agent. I work for a cellular provider and part of my job is tech support, and I had completed literally EVERY step I could think of, and found online and what the agent had me try, if I hadn’t done it yet. Nothing worked. Eventually the agent and I came up with that it was definitely the iOS update and we will have to wait until the next update and hope it is fixed. Meantime, I’m either using my iPad, which is still on an older update, with an USB to USB-C cable, or using the lightning to aux adapter with my phone and they work. Bluetooth works too, but the audio and bass quality sucks compared to with a cable.

I just downloaded 15.2 put my usb cable into the USB port in my car. Hit the aux cd button. It actually didn’t work initially but then a random song started playing on my phone, which I thought was odd. So I then unplugged it and replugged it, next thing I know it said indexing my iPod (which is actually my iPhone) and everything worked like it used too!

Opened a case with Apple to have this looked into. Confirmed that mine and my partners iPhone 7 Plus’ always worked for over a year using the adapter to our Buick. We both upgraded recently and it came with software 15.1. None of our phones connect to the car anymore since the update. Shaking my head for updating my older phone when it could’ve been used to bump tunes in the car 😭

Long story short, but was contacted and told it was a bug in the software and the engineers are trying to fix it. Here’s hoping they’re actually attacking this issue as driving to work with loud music is a pretty important part of my day as I’m sure is the issue with many others.

if you need the link to start up a case with them;
