Hi, Haley!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. We see that you are experiencing a problem listening to music from your iPhone while in your car, though it will still charge. We're happy to help!

Based on what you've described, we recommend following the steps under the "Connect using USB playback" section of How to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your car - Apple Support, which you can find below:

"Connect using USB playback

  1. Restart your device and your car.
  2. Make sure that your device is unlocked and on the Home screen.
  3. If possible, try to connect using another cable or USB port. Check the manual that came with your car to learn how to connect an Apple device.
  4. Check your charging port for any debris or damage. Make sure that your charging cable is properly inserted into the port.
  5. Update your device.
  6. Make sure that your stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.
  7. Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support."

Best!

I have the same issue. I drive a 2014 Chevy Cruze and I have an iPhone 8+. Did the update over the weekend and noticed yesterday my phone wasn’t connecting. I read a post from an old update that said try and download one song to your phone and the vehicle might re-register that the phone is on, plugged in and playing music. After that the guys phone was able to read Spotify/Apple Music/ whatever app he was utilizing. Hoping that works because this is a total bummer. Can’t believe there’s a correlation from iPhone to Chevy, how weird.

I have the same issue. I’m so glad I found this. I knew that stupid update messed things up!!! I was playing music and podcast fine until I updated my phone. Now it will not connect to Apple Music, Spotify or anything else. My phone charges..I get calls but no music.

I have an iPhone 12 and a 2014 Chevy Equinox.

Apple needs to fix this asap!!!!

Can comfirm it is the update, 2012 Cruze (iPhone X 15.1)here and I have the same issue. My wife is still on 15.0.0 and it connects just fine. Riding in silence isn't fun. The only temoprary solution for us cruze owners (and maybe applicable chevy owners with this issue) is the adapater (aux to lightning that's usually used for headphones) and plug that into our phones via the Aux Port. Unfortunately this way won't charge your phone at the same time...Hopefully an update will hotfix this issue.

I have a 2011 Chevy Cruze LTZ, and the same thing happened to me. I tried different cords and devices and couldn’t figure it out until I found this post.

had a bad feeling doing that update and wish I hadn’t now. I plug my phone into the USB daily to be able to use maps and listen to music and charge at the same time. I will get lost without maps. No way to do all this with an aux cord I don’t think.

Is there any way to roll back to the previous IOS version until they fix this? If not they need to issue all part us a loaner phone!! I’m so ticked off and it made my driving 10 times more difficult and frustrating today.

Right there with ya. Do you have an Apple Music subscription? I call into support and they said to download a song to your Apple Music to have a song in your library. I was wondering since I don’t have an Apple Music subscription and even deleted the Apple Music app if that’s what caused my outage. I guess not if it’s happening to other people.

I have a 2011 GMC Terrain, and when I updated to 15.1, I could no longer play music in my car either. I know for sure it’s the update because my son’s iPhone has not been updated and I can connect music from his phone to my car. I am really frustrated because this is my main source of listening to music and podcasts. It doesn’t look like there is a way to downgrade, so I am super bummed. I hope Apple can fix this asap because for the first time in ten years I am tempted to switch to an android. :(

I have a 2011 Chevy Cruze and I just updated to iOS 15.1.1 and it’s not allowing me to Listen to music through the USB plug that I’ve been using for years now. I had my phone updated to iOS 14.0.1 and it was working fine but as soon as I updated to this new version it’s not working anymore. Is apple going to fix this problem? Or have they done this to stop people using USB to play music?
