update control center app
app states it needs updating on Mac Air also the remote desktop connection app. Not sure where/how to do this.

If it's an Apple app, use the "Update" selection in the App Store; non Apple follow the developer's direction on updates.
Apple system type upgrades: check the "Software Update" item in System Preferences.
What message are you getting that tells you the Remote Desktop needs updating?
